Sterling, 27, is expected to make his European debut for the Blues away in Croatia.

And providing he does so, it will add to his previous Champions League ventures with Liverpool and Manchester City.

It puts him alongside a select few players that have competed in Europe's elite competition for three separate Premier League clubs.

The others are David Batty, Kolo Toure, William Gallas and Yossi Benayoun.

Sterling came a whisker away from winning the Champions League last year, but Man City were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in the final.

That is more than can be said for Batty, Gallas and Benayoun, all of whom never reached a final.

But Toure did make it all the way to the 2006 final with Arsenal, only to come up short against Barcelona.

Sterling has made 73 appearances in the Champions League, scoring 24 goals and providing 21 assists.

And he has made an impressive start to life under Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.

The England international has scored three goals and provided one assist in six league appearances.

But his form has not prevented Chelsea from losing two Prem matches already this season.

And the club are already five points adrift of table toppers Arsenal, with a trip to West London rivals Fulham on the horizon on Saturday.

Along with Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League group, Tuchel's men also face RB Salzburg and AC Milan.
