Muzza, who plays Argentine Francisco Cerundolo in the first round tomorrow, was sweating on the results of his sweat-tests taken last week.

The worry was if they came back showing a significant issue, deficiency or concern.

But he said last night: “The sweat test was good. The blood test was good. No illnesses.

“I think it’d be nice if it was one thing, you were deficient in something, maybe it is because of that.

“But at least I know now it is more down to either conditioning or hydration or food-related.

“I don’t really know why it has happened. Last few days in practice I have actually felt a bit better in the conditions. So hopefully I will be alright on Monday.”

Kyle Edmund is confident his body can stand up to a five-set marathon despite two years away from Grand Slam tennis.

The British star goes into a first-round clash in New York with No 5 seed Casper Ruud just three months after a career-saving knee operation.

Edmund, 27, last appeared in singles action here in 2020, when he lost in the second round to Novak Djokovic.

Three surgeries on a persistent knee issue have meant months at a time on the sidelines as Edmund wondered if he would ever play professionally again.

He said: “Overall my knee has held up well in matches and practice. Some weeks I have felt good. Other weeks not so good.

“The reality is that it will be a managing thing. Once I build up momentum with the weeks that will help me.

“It’s two years since this tournament. It has been a long time. It will be new for me. I haven’t played a five-set match in so long.

“It is about 11-12 weeks ago that I had my last surgery. To be now three months on in a Grand Slam is great.”

Heather Watson and Paul Jubb both missed out on the US Open main draw after losing in the final qualifiers.

It is the first time since 2014 that no Brit, male or female, came through qualifying.
