  • County eyeing giant-killing repeat

League Two Newport County will travel to Leicester City of the Premier League in the third round of the Carabao Cup with memories of a famous giant-killing fresh in their mind.

The Exiles dumped Claude Puel's Foxes out of the FA Cup at the third round stage in 2019 thanks to a late penalty from Padraig Amond.

On a rocking night at Rodney Parade, the minnows had taken a shock lead through Jamille Matt's 10th minute header.

And although Rachid Ghezzai equalised for the top-flight visitors eight minutes from the end, Newport were not to be denied their cupset.

Michael Flynn's men held on through a nervy finale to seal a first FA Cup win against a top tier side since they beat Sheffield Wednesday in 1964.

  • Kepa load of this tie

The standout tie of the Carabao Cup third round is undoubtedly Manchester City's home match with Chelsea.

The Premier League heavyweights will meet in November in what is a repeat of a memorable League Cup final in 2019.

Admittedly, it wasn't a Wembley classic for the goalmouth action - more the goalkeeper action.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri wanted to substitute his number one Kepa Arrizabalaga in extra-time with penalties approaching after the Spaniard had gone down with cramp.

However, the keeper defied his manager, refusing to make way for Willy Caballero.

Caballero had saved three penalties in a shootout to help Manchester City win the same trophy against Liverpool three years earlier.

But Kepa stayed on, and ended on the losing side as City triumphed 4-3 on spotkicks.

  • Derby date for cup holders

Carabao Cup holders Liverpool will host League One Derby County in round three of this year's competition.

The Reds have previously faced the Rams twice before in the competition, both times at the third round stage.

Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip all featured the last time the sides met in the League Cup.

That tie ended in a 3-0 win for the Merseysiders at Pride Park in September 2016 with Ragnar Klavan, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi the men on target.

And prior to that, Liverpool also won 2-0 at Anfield in October 1977 when super sub David Fairclough bagged two late goals off the bench.

Philippe Coutinho scores on the last occasion that Liverpool faced Derby in the League Cup.

  • Good morning football fans

The Carabao Cup third round draw saw SEVEN all-Premier League clashes picked last night.

Manchester City vs Chelsea is the marquee clash, with the third round fixtures taking place on the week commencing November 7.

And yes, that is just two weeks before the World Cup begins!

The Blues were beaten finalists against Liverpool last year, while City won the previous four editions of the competition.

Chelsea's tricky tie will also see Raheem Sterling return to his old stomping ground for the first time.

The England star won the Carabao Cup FIVE times during his time at City - and will hope to bring that kind of success to Stamford Bridge after his £47.5million summer switch.

Elsewhere, Arsenal take on Brighton at the Emirates and Manchester United host Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

Liverpool, who won the trophy last season in a thrilling penalty win over Chelsea, host League One Derby County.
