Tyson Fury shares emotional video in tribute to cousin Rico Burton after he’s stabbed to death outside pub

TYSON Fury has shared an emotional video in tribute to his cousin who was stabbed to death outside a pub.

Horrified revellers watched as a knife was plunged into Rico Burton‘s neck in a 3am “bloodbath” in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, on Sunday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Goose Green and former boxer Rico, 31, was taken to hospital, but he died a short time later.

Heavyweight champion Fury has since shared a touching video by his cousin’s old gym, Jimmy Egan’s Boxing Academy.

It features a series of photos of Rico in action, as well as a 10-bell ring in his memory.

And, with members behind him, head coach Steve Egan delivers a tribute to camera in which he describes Rico as “part of the community”.

He says: “As most people know, especially in the boxing world, one of our ex-boxers Rico Burton got murdered, another victim of knife crime.

“Loads of us here have known him since he was a kid.

“We’re proper heartbroken. He was part of this gym, part of the community, and it has really just knocked us sick.

“We’re doing our little tribute to him, 10 bells which is tradition in boxing, to pay our respects to him.”

Steve went on to say the gym will be introducing a “Rico Burton memorial trophy” which will be given at every presentation from now on.

“Rico will always be remembered. Three cheers for Rico,” he added.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

“We’re feeling it so I dread to imagine how bad they’re feeling. All the best.”

Cops have arrested two men, 21 and 20, in connection with the fatal stabbing, which Greater Manchester Police Superintendent Ben Ewart described as “spontaneous” and “senseless”.

‘SENSELESS’ ATTACK

In a social media post on Sunday, Fury called on the government to “bring higher sentencing for knife crime” after his cousin, who had been watching the clash between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, was “stabbed in the neck”.

He wrote on Instagram: “This is becoming ridiculous… idiots carry knives. This needs to stop.

“ASAP, [the] UK government needs to bring higher sentencing for knife crime.

“It’s a pandemic and you don’t know how bad it is until one of your own.

“Life is very precious and it can be taken away very quick. Enjoy every moment.”

Rico’s death comes amid a wave of knife and gun violence across the UK.

Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “Knife crime is destroying lives and devastating families.

“This is yet another horrific killing on Britain’s streets. It is becoming a national crisis and we need urgent action before more lives are lost.”
