Mo Farah aims to break 10,000 metres world record in final track season
MO FARAH wants to break the 10,000 metres world record next year in his final track season.
The Brit, 33, clinched an historic DOUBLE DOUBLE at Rio by defending his 10,000m and 5,000m Olympic titles.
But Farah’s only world record is the indoor two-mile — which he set in Birmingham last year.
He brings the curtain down on his track career at next summer’s World Championships at the London Stadium.
And Farah is hoping to have a crack at Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele’s 10,000m world record of 26min 17.53sec.
Farah said: “I can give the 10,000m a little more. My best is 26:46, so I’m still quite a way off it.
“I need to get into the 30s and then the 20s.
“Next year, if it gives me enough time before or after the World Championships, I’ll give it a go.”
Farah admitted he had considered a record bid in the past but added: “It’s harder to train for championships and go for records.
“I wouldn’t have won what I have done in terms of medals, had I gone for the record.”
