HOLLYWOOD star Tom Hardy stunned fans by winning a gold medal at a jiu-jitsu tournament in Wolverhampton.

The 44-year-old was competing at the REORG Open Jiu-jitsu Championship at Aldersley Leisure Village.

And those in the building were treated to the Venom star emerging victorious at the event.

Hardy, who is a big combat sports fan, trained in MMA for the 2011 film Warrior and has experience of fighting in several of his roles.

They include playing the Kray twins in Legend and Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders.

The competition was staged by charity REORG - who provide jiu-jitsu training for "disabled combat veterans in the UK suffering from either serious injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder".

And not only did Hardy win the tournament, but he then also went on to make a six-year-old boy's year.

Mum Carla Frost revealed after the event that her son and huge Venom fan Ollie was able to meet Hardy and pose for pictures with the Hollywood A-lister.

Speaking to , she said: "I received a message that he was in our town competing in a Jiu-jitsu tournament, drove down, walked in, asked for him and was told he had just left.

"My son then burst into tears. The lovely lady from REORG decided to just check.

"The next thing I know this lovely man is walking across the sports hall to us.

"He instinctively scooped my son into a hug and proceeded to just make his year.

"He's so kind and thoughtful. So surreal! My son has grown up hearing me talk about how talented and brilliant this man is."
