Gary Neville reveals he collapsed and was rushed to hospital after Man Utd legend had fit when Sterling scored v Germany

GARY NEVILLE was rushed to hospital after suffering a fit during England's Euro 2020 clash with Germany last summer.

The Three Lions booked their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament with a memorable 2-0 win over their eternal rivals.

Raheem Sterling lit the blue touch paper for a famous victory at Wembley and sent the nation into pandemonium by opening the scoring in the 75th minute.

But the chaos and ecstasy that came with Sterling's goal proved to have a worrying effect on the ever-busy Neville.

During an appearance on , he said: "Raheem Sterling scored the goal in the European Championships against Germany a year and a half ago and I basically collapsed to the floor.

"And after that, I went to hospital, I had checks and found out I need to slow down a little bit, basically."

Neville admits his hectic work schedule and failure to unwind often result in him zoning out.

The Sky Sports pundit said: "It is similar things to what my dad was told in his 40s, that ultimately I do too much. I think too much, I need to relax more.

"To be fair, my wife says it a lot, 'You're here but you're not present.' I was doing an interview the other day with Geoff Shreeves, Geoff's known me 15-20 years.

"And he said, 'The problem when I ask you a question, you've got my question within the first two seconds.

The fit was a huge wake-up call for Neville, who has heeded the doctors' orders to ensure he doesn't have another episode.

He says he own a sleep ring, which monitors your heart rate and breathing to ensure better sleep, but often forgets to wear it.

The former England star said: "I have [made changes] but then it is the actual sustaining of the changes and not dipping back into your old habits.

"That is the problem. So what do I do? I train four to five times a week."

"I have a sleep ring, it focuses me on the time I need to sleep at night. But I don't always wear it.

"It's in my bag, I didn't wear it last night and I am annoyed at myself because I didn't wear it. I forgot to put it on when I got back."

But old habits die hard for the former Manchester United and England defender.

He said: "Habits, you drift back into your old habits. I try not to pick up my phone when I first wake up but I am failing miserably at that."
