Brentford 4-0 Man Utd LIVE REACTION: Cristiano Ronaldo contract ‘could be TERMINATED’ as Ten Hag cancels flops’ day off

MANCHESTER UNITED were obliterated 4-0 by Brentford yesterday as the post-Alex Ferguson era reached a new low.

David de Gea let Josh Dasilva's shot slip straight through his hands to get the Bees off the mark early on as Ronaldo appealed in vain for a foul after losing possession.

Christian Eriksen then lost the ball against his former club to give Mathias Jensen a simple tap in.

And Brentford would go on to net a third as Ben Mee outjumped Lisandro Martinez to head in from close range and a fourth as Bryan Mbeumo slid the ball past De Gea to finish off a brilliant counter-attack.

In the aftermath of the match, Steve McClaren was seen asking Ronaldo to applaud the Man Utd fans but the Portugal captain instead shrugged him off and angrily stormed down the tunnel.

Following the match, it has been revealed that a fuming Erik ten Hag has decided to cancel the United players' day off.

And there are even rumours that the club could TERMINATE Cristiano Ronaldo's contract if he doesn't improve his attitude.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

73': A dangerous cross is well dealt with by Jansson, before Ronaldo sees yet another effort fly off target.

Wissa is brought on to replace Mbuemo, who has been relentless out there. Baptiste also replaces goalscorer Jensen.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

72': The drinks break has lead to more of the same out here, with plenty of the ball but no threat for the visitors.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

67': Rashford tees up a nice cross to Eriksen, but a header lacking power from Eriksen is comfortably dealt with by Raya.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

66': United get a rare corner but they're also given a lesson in how to defend them, as Ben Mee heads clear.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

63': It's all so dysfunctional for United right now.

Their last two attacks have both lead to stray passes towards players who were offside anyway.

Brentford still look extremely safe at the moment.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

60': Another poor showing from Jadon Sancho comes to an end, as he's replaced by Anthony Elanga.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

58': Another Brentford corner, and Toney look unmarked again but Eriksen recovers just in time to give away another corner.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

54': There's definitely a lot more to United attacking wise in this half, and it leads to Brentford's first sub.

    Dasilva is replaced by Janelt.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

52': Ronaldo again meets a cross from the right, but again his header is off target.

Better from the Red Devils though.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

51': Ronaldo thumps the ground in frustration after heading way wide from Dalot's cross.

The ironic jeers from the crowd wont have helped either...

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

50': De Gea reacts quickly to make a smart save at the near post, after United again struggle to clear a corner.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

48': Brentford threatening straight away again here, but Henry's cross is disappointing and hacked away.

  • Back underway

How will the subs change the fortunes for United in this second half?

    We're back underway here.

  • Changes for United

It's all change for Erik ten Hag's side at the break.

Varane, McTominay and Malacia are on for Fred, Martinez and Shaw.

  • Ten Hag regretting his selections?

Erik ten Hag certainly picked a team to dominate possession in this one, however did he overlook Brentford's physical strengths and their ability from set-pieces?

The hosts have bullied their opponents so far, pure and simple.

    Real, real troubles for United.

  • Irresistible Brentford

It may have been obnoxious to think this would be a walkover for United, but you're lying if you predicted that first half.

In the intense heat, Brentford have been a pressing machine, winning the ball back seemingly at will high up the pitch, while also dominating from set-pieces.

  • Half-time

    Unbelievable.

David de Gea's incompetence for the first goal set the tone, but he's quickly been backed up by shambolic displays across the pitch for Erik ten Hag's men.

Brentford meanwhile have been unbelievable, and if anything deserve even more for their performance so far.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

46': Four added minutes for this first half, likely purely due to the celebrations from Brentford players for all the goals.

The visitors are on the ball a lot at the minute, albeit with little to no threat.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

44': Fernandes has a go from distance but it goes way over, and that just about sums up anything United have tried going forwards today.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

41': Rashford tries to take on Roerslev down the left, but he defends well and takes the sting out of the shot.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

39': Rashford was left in a bit of a heap after that challenge with Raya, but he's back to his feet.

  • Brentford 4-0 Manchester United

37': I'm struggling to keep up here, and it really doesn't look like Brentford are letting up,

Raya is off his line quickly to beat Rashford to a long ball and clear.

  • GOAL! Mbuemo!

    What is going on?

All that possession for United and then Brentford go from one end to the other in seconds.

Toney does brilliantly to feed Mbuemo and he makes no mistake to make it four!

  • Brentford 3-0 Manchester United

34': United are absolutely shell-shocked. They have been bullied by Brentford, pure and simple.

A bit of possession for them at last as they look to mount an unlikely comeback.

  • GOAL! BEN MEE!

    Unbelievable.

The free-kick is another that the visitors struggle to properly clear, eventually going out for a corner.

A deep corner is kept alive by Toney, and there's Mee at the back post to bundle it home for his first for the club!
