F1 Hungarian Grand Prix LIVE RESULTS: Verstappen WINS with Lewis Hamilton in SECOND in thriller – reaction
DUTCH ace Max Verstappen performed the drive of the 2022 season after winning the Hungarian Grand Prix after starting tenth.
And there was double joy for Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell both finishing on the podium.
Red Bull driver Verstappen has extended his Championship lead to 80 points with his nearest rival Charles Leclerc coming home in sixth.
It was a disappointing performance from the Ferrari man who had been leading the race.
His team-mate Carlos Sainz finished in fourth, with Red Bull's Sergio Perez in fifth.

Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 57
Lewis Hamilton has put in the fastest lap of the day as he tries to catch Carlos Sainz in third place.
He is immediately beaten to that accolade by Russell and then beats his British compatriot's time with his next lap.
Great driving here by the ex-world champion.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 55
There is potential that Max Verstappen could win this race from 10th place on the starting grid today.
What a fantastic drive that would be from the championship leader.
George Russell moves ahead of Leclerc into second place.
The message from the pit has gone out to Leclerc to 'box, box!'
Those hard tyres are costing him dearly.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 53
Lewis Hamilton comes in for the inevitable pit stop and comes out on the soft compound tyre.
Verstappen is in the lead now.
Hamilton is now in fifth place behind Carlos Sainz.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 51
As it stands the top five is as follows:

- Max Verstappen
- Charles Leclerc
- George Russell
- Carlos Sainz
Russell is really putting some pressure on Leclerc for the podium places on his medium compound tyre.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 49
Sainz comes in for a pit stop as Lewis Hamilton takes the lead.
Hamilton will have to pit again as he has gone medium/medium on the tyre front so far.
He is currently 6.6 seconds ahead of Verstappen in second place.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 47
Verstappen moves into third place behind Lewis Hamilton.
Carlos Sainz leads the race but surely both he and Hamilton will have to pit again.
Leclerc seems to be struggling in the hard compound tyre.
He may find himself under pressure from George Russell now.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 45
Max Verstappen sets the fastest lap of the day as he puts some pressure on Leclerc.
The Dutch driver has done brilliantly to get back into this position after that spin.
Whether there is any damage to them that may hinder him later in the race, only time will tell.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 43
It is all change at the top now.
Sainz leads the race with Lewis Hamilton in second place.
Leclerc is in third, Verstappen in fourth who had a mini spin on the corner.
He did well to keep control and recover but it has allowed Leclerc time to warm up those tyres.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 41
Big news as both Leclerc and Russell decide to pit.
More interestingly, with the Alpines struggling on the hard tyres, Ferrari have decided to ignore this and get Leclerc onto the hard compound tyres.
Meanwhile, George Russell sticks with the medium tyres.
Leclerc is struggling on the hard tyres already and is unable to get passed Max Verstappen.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 39
Lando Norris is the first driver to report that the course is getting very slippy.
This could make for a very interesting race.
Verstappen decides it is time to pit himself for the final time, which will put him behind Hamilton and Perez.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 37
With Verstappen in fourth place, this could be a huge race to win for Leclerc when it comes to the driver's championship.
A few cars are coming off the course now, making us wonder whether the few spots of rain are making sections of the course greasy.
Race leader Leclerc is on the youngest tyres of the leading pack also.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 35
5.8 seconds between leader Leclerc and fourth placed Verstappen.
Russell is currently half a second behind Carlos Sainz and the British driver who hit pole position.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 33
Drivers are complaining about a few spots of rain as their pits reassure them it should pass.
The choice of tyres could become an important factor as Russell and Verstappen will need to change from soft to medium.
Hamilton is constantly hitting quick laps times currently, sitting in fifth place.

Leclerc manages to take Russell thanks to the aide of DRS.
He has been nipping at the heels of George Russell for some time.
The Ferrari team applaud the move by their driver.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 29
Russell and Leclerc are involved in a real battle for first place.
While Charles Leclerc is thinking about the longer game of the championship this is not a concern for Russell.
He can be more attacking than his Monacan counterpart.

Leclerc is hot on the tail of George Russell now.
The battle for first place is heating up.
Verstappen now has Sainz in his sights as he looks to make his way up the grid.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 25
No chance of one stop only for the drivers today, it seems they have already opted for a two-stop race.
Maybe even more if we see any rain.
Riccardo takes advantage of the two battling Alpines and manages to slide passed both.
Alonso will not be happy with that as he still tries to get passed teammate Ocon.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 23
Leclerc decides to finally pit, which allows them to switch their drivers.
Verstappen continues his aggressive drive as he moves up to fourth place.
Ocon is behind him, Verstappen still not happy with the way the French driver affected his start to this race.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 21
Lewis Hamilton pits himself and at 2.8 seconds its a much quicker change than both Sainz and Russell.
George Russell now finds himself in second place behind Leclerc who has yet to pit.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 19
George Russell decides to pit although there are questions over whether Ferrari put a fake call to trick the Mercedes driver.
Russell returns in sixth place, managing to stay ahead of Fernando Alonso.
Sainz decides to pit and re-enters the race behind Russell.
Poor work by Ferrari in the pits as they looked to take advantage from Russell's 4-second pit.
Leclerc leads the way having not pitted as yet.
Verstappen records the fastest lap so far.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 17
George Russell is enjoying the race so far with no pressure from the two Ferrari's behind him.
They may need to consider changing their drivers to allow Leclerc to put more pressure on Russell.
Verstappen is right on the tail of Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton is about 9 seconds behind the race leader.
Hungarian Grand Prix: Lap 15
Verstappen is hot on the heels of Lewis Hamilton now.
Ferrari seem to be utilising tyre management currently and focussing on their own race and nobody else.
Leclerc and Sainz are continuing to battle for second place.

Hamilton takes advantage in the first turn and manages to overtake Lando Norris.
Verstappen takes advantage to glide passed Norris also.
The first two corners are the time where you have to be aware of who is in your rear on this circuit.

A lot of drivers, such as George Russell, have chosen to start on soft tyres today.
As it stands here, we have three British drivers in the top five.
Russell, Norris and Hamilton all flying the flag for the country.

Verstappen is looking to take the grid on as he overtakes Estaban Ocon to move into 6th place.
The championship leader is behind Lewis Hamilton in fifth place now.
Perez is just behind Verstappen as it stands.
Hamilton is right on the tail of Lando Norris.
