Conor McGregor told to fight Justin Gaethje in UFC return by ex-foe Dustin Poirier who predicts ‘car wreck’ of a fight

CONOR MCGREGOR has been urged to fight Justin Gaethje in his eagerly-anticipated return to the octagon.

The MMA superstar is edging closer to making a full recovery from the horrific broken leg he suffered last July and has plenty of options on the table for his comeback fight.

A fourth fight with Dustin Poirier has been mooted, although The Diamond reckons the UFC's poster boy should finally settle the score with Gaethje upon his return.

During an appearance on , Poirier said: “Justin Gaethje vs the return of Conor McGregor. The hype, the build-up — somebody’s going to sleep.

"I mean, you’re tuning in for a car wreck. A head-on collision and I want to see it.”

McGregor and Gaethje, 34 and 33 respectively, have been at one another's throats for the best part of three years.

Former two-division champion McGregor welcomed up a match-up with The Highlight in the summer of 2017 but added his name to his hit list in September 2019 after he branded him a "s**t father".

The Notorious took serious offence to that claim, responding: "Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all know.

"Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want. I am going to f**king butcher you.

"Your teeth. I'm going to put them on a f*****g necklace. Speak on my skills as a father? You are f*****g dead."

McGregor is in the final stages of recovering from the broken leg he suffered in his UFC 264 trilogy fight with Poirier.

Ireland's first UFC champion demanded revenge as he was being tended to on the octagon canvas, although Poirier is done with that chapter of his career.

He said: “I’m probably not going to fight Conor again. I don’t really want to fight Conor again.

"For me, that door is closed. The only reason I’d do it is for money. I beat him two times in a row. Can I beat my two performances?

"Can I knock him out quicker? Can I 10-7 him? What can I do? I’ve done it.

"If I do it again, it’s just for money, right? So that’s a completely different thing."
