Wayne Rooney includes ‘Coleen release clause’ in DC United contract with Man Utd legend’s wife staying in UK
WAYNE ROONEY reportedly has a special "Coleen release clause" in his contract at American side DC United.
The Manchester United icon penned a deal lasting until the end of 2023 to manage the Washington DC-based side, with the option of another 12 months.
But there is a "Coleen release clause" in his contract that would see him allowed to leave sooner, according to the .
Rooney, 36, is reportedly free to head back to the UK and rejoin his family if a Premier League club comes in for him.
It comes after Rooney confirmed he would not be joined in the States by Coleen, 36, and their four children - Kai, 12, Cass, four, Klay, nine, and Kit, six.
The entire family moved out when Rooney played for DC United between 2018 and 2020, but Coleen struggled to settle away from home.

And a clause in Rooney's new £800,000-a-year DC United deal will allow him to return home to his family - if a Prem club comes in for him.
A source told the Mirror: "Wayne planned summer with the family after leaving Derby County. He didn’t expect to be offered a job so soon.
"His contract lets him to speak to Premier League clubs if there’s a job going.
"I think he’ll only return if it’s a big club, but being home with Coleen and the boys would be a big factor for him."

That's after Coleen had laid bare the tensions in their marriage and how she was so homesick living in America that she often cried herself to sleep.
Rooney though was eager for the challenge, regardless of whether he would be joined by Coleen and their kids.
He confirmed: "I think it was well documented that my wife had a tough time in looking after four children away from home. She’d never been away from home. It was tough.
"Of course there’s no issue. I speak to my wife about decisions like this, of course, and there's no problem whatsoever.
"I think she’s glad to get rid of me."
