The life and times of controversial heavyweight champion Tyson Fury

TYSON FURY has finally called time on his expletive-laden career after yet another foul-mouthed outburst on social media.

Since joining the professional ranks at the age of 20, the 'Gypsy King' has never been short of headlines for his controversial behaviour, let alone his boxing achievements.

December 2008: Fury makes his professional debut and signs with boxing promoter Mick Hennessy.

November 2009: Fury claimed the English heavyweight title in his eighth professional bout, beating John McDermott on points at Brentwood Centre.

July 2011: Fury faced undefeated heavyweight Derek Chisora for the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles and left Wembley Arena victorious after winning by unanimous decision.

October 2012: Fury took his opportunity on Channel 5 to trash David Price and Tony Bellew calling them 'Gay Lovers'.

September 2013: David Haye was set to take on Fury at a sold-out Manchester Arena. With a week to go, Haye sustained a cut which required six stitches above the eye and pulled out as a result.

Feb 2014: Haye was forced to pull out of the rescheduled fight following a career-threatening shoulder injury.

November 2014:  Fury brushes Chisora aside for the second time in world title eliminator.
September 2015: He stuns Wladimir Klitschko by arriving for press conference dressed as Batman much to the amusement of the media and supporters.

November 2015: Fury compared homosexuality and abortion to paedophilia in a vile, offensive rant in .

November 2015: Fury beats Klitschko by unanimous decision in Dusseldorf to scoop the WBA Super, WBO, IBO and IBF heavyweight titles.

December 2015: Fury is stripped of the IBF title after just 10 days because of a rematch clause in the Klitschko contract which stipulated that he could not face mandatory IBF challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov.

December 2015: Fury appears in an online video in which he says Olympian Jessica Ennis-Hill 'slaps up good'. He goes on to claim 'a woman's best place is in the kitchen and on her back'.

December 2015: Fury is a late inclusion for the Sports Personality of the Year awards. A petition to remove him from the award shortlist reached 45000 signatures. He finished seventh with 7,000 fewer votes than third-placed Jessica Ennis-Hill.

April 2016: The rematch with Klitschko is finally agreed for July 9 at Manchester Arena. It took several months for Fury to put pen to paper.

June 2016: Fury reportedly suffers an ankle injury in training and pulls out of the fight with around two weeks to go.

June 2016: He splashed out 1000 Euros on 200 Jagerbombs while partying with ecstatic England fans in Nice during Euro 2016.

September 2016: He misses the final press conference ahead of the fight after claiming his car broke down.

September 2016: Tyson Fury's rematch with Wladimir Klitschko has been called off for a second time after he was declared "medically unfit to fight".

September 2016: It emerges that Fury was notified on September 22 that his random urine sample had tested positive for cocaine.

October 2016: Fury announces his shock retirement from the sport in foul mouthed rant on Twitter.
