A DETECTIVE who led the failed prosecution of Harry Redknapp is being lined up to spearhead the probe into football bungs.
City of London Police Fraud Squad boss Dave Manley will meet reporters behind Sam Allardyce’s downfall this week to receive a dossier on eight more bosses.
Det Ch Insp Manley ran the £8million Operation Apprentice into soccer corruption which failed to secure a conviction.
Redknapp was cleared of tax evasion in 2012.
He had snapped at the cop, dubbed the Rottweiler, at his trial: “Will you please stop staring at me.
“I know you’re trying to cause me a problem. OK?”
Another failed investigation led by Mr Manley was a race-fixing probe into jockey Kieren Fallon and five other men.
City of London Police said of the new investigation: “Any inquiries relating to illegal payments would come under his remit.”
