Leeds United striker Jordan Botaka comes to rescue of calamitous Come Dine With Me couple
After a kitchen disaster on the popular TV show when their plates exploded, next-door neighbour Botaka happily donated some crockery to the cause
A COUPLE appearing on popular TV show Come Dine With Me had their evening saved by a Leeds United footballer after their plates EXPLODED.
Ryan Brown and Gemma Randells were about to serve up the main course for fellow contestants in their Leeds flat, and had stupidly put their dinner plates on the hob to warm them up.
But the plates began to explode due to the head and were smashing to pieces.
Radiographer Ryan said: "Every time we went to pick one up it would smash, and we had no other plates.
Luckily, living next door in the apartment block was none other than Leeds United striker Jordan Botaka - now on loan at Charlton Athletic in League 1.
Ryan desperately knocked on their neighbour’s door in a bid to find more plates - and 23-year-old Congo international Botaka was happy to oblige.
He was filmed happily agreeing to help Ryan and Gemma out, and gave them a stack of new crockery to allow their meal to go ahead.
The couple later returned the dining set to Jordan in the Channel 4 episode which was broadcast on Wednesday.
Ryan added: "He saved the day! We knew he lived there and he’s a friend - he’s a good neighbour who never complains about the noise. He even had a football in his hand when he answered the door!”
“The experience of being on the show was amazing - everyone got on so well and we’re all still friends now. We didn’t win, and we blame the plates!
“We decided to enter as Gemma is a really good cook, and we like to entertain. It was a really good laugh,” added Ryan. The episode of Couples Come Dine With Me was broadcast on Wednesday.
Leeds are in mid-table in the Championship with manager Garry Monk under yet-more pressure - but preparations for their Yorkshire derby at home to Barnsley have been disrupted by chairman Massimo Cellino's alleged involvement in the football corruption scandal currently engulfing English football.
