He was substituted in the 64th minute and applauded the Atletico fans as he walked off.

But the Uruguayan could not contain his emotions as he watched on from the substitutes bench - and covered his face with a shirt as he began to cry.

Suarez also burst into tears in May last year when he spoke to loved ones on FaceTime after Atletico won La Liga.

And he was also visibly upset when he said goodbye to Barcelona in 2020 - having enjoyed tremendous success at Camp Nou.

Atletico fans showed their appreciation to the veteran forward, unveiling a banner which read: "Thank you Lucho for making us champions."

Suarez scored 21 goals last season to help Diego Simeone's side to the title - the 19th trophy of his career.

And although he has not been a regular for Atletico this season Suarez still has 12 goals to his name, sparking transfer interest.

There has been a lot of speculation about Suarez's future with the striker keen on a return to Barcelona.

Xavi may be willing to bring him back too since he is out of contract and reportedly willing to take a significant pay cut.

He is currently believed to be earning around £160,000 a week, which may be beyond what Barca are willling to pay.

Suarez could also reunite with Ajax after leaving the Dutch champions in 2011 to join Liverpool.
