Stoke City news: Steve Bruce lined up as replacement for under-pressure Mark Hughes at Potters
STEVE BRUCE is being lined up by Stoke City chiefs to replace Mark Hughes after a disastrous start tot the Potters’ Premier League campaign.
Former Manchester City boss Hughes is battling to save his job having failed to win a single league game so far in six attempts.
They are not bottom of the table, having overtaken Sunderland after Saturday’s draw against West Brom – but Hughes is still bookies favourite to become the first manager sacked this season, opening the door for Bruce according to the .
After taking over from Tony Pulis in May 2013, the Potters have finished ninth in each of the three seasons that he has been in charge.
But this season there have been rumours of dressing room unrest with loan signing Wilfried Bony, who arrived from Manchester City as the club’s highest-paid player on £120,000 a week, putting his new teammates’ noses out of joint.
Bruce left Hull City in the summer in frustration at the lack of transfer activity and has been linked with a host of early-season roles, including Aston Villa and the England manager’s job before Sam Allardyce took charge.
He oversaw the Tigers’ return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, having previously taken them down, after they beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 in the Championship play-off final in the summer.
The former Manchester United playing legend has managed a host of clubs in the top flight including Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Birmingham City.
