Liverpool ‘to offer Joe Gomez new contract amid transfer interest from FIVE Premier League clubs’

LIVERPOOL are reportedly set to offer Joe Gomez a new contract to stay at Anfield.

The England international defender arrived at Anfield from boyhood club Charlton Athletic back in 2015.

Since then he has gone on to help the Reds to Champions League and Premier League glory as well as the Uefa Super Cup and Club World Cup.

However, the 24-year-old suffered a serious knee injury last season and has struggled for regular action this term since his return.

He has been limited to just 10 starts in all competitions, with only seven in the top-flight, after falling behind Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate in the pecking order.

Gomez’s current contract expires in 2024 and a host of clubs have been linked with a transfer move for him.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard wants to bring him to Aston Villa.

And newly-promoted Fulham would love to get the London-born ace back to the capital ahead of their Premier League return.

However, the says Jurgen Klopp wants to keep Gomez at Anfield.

And they state that sources have told them that “the club have tasked Julian Ward with looking to tie down” Gomez to a new deal at the end of the campaign.

But a lot of it depends on how the star views his own situation with the winter World Cup fast-approaching.

He will no doubt be desperate to earn a recall to Gareth Southgate’s squad for Qatar in November.

He may view a move and first-team football as his best option to do that.

And his options may not only be limited to these shores.

Back in December it was reported that Real Madrid, who face the Reds in the Champions League final later this month, had been tracking him.
