  • That's all from Madrid

Real Madrid defeated Espanyol 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu to clinch a record 35th LaLiga league title with four games to spare.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti put together a weakened side as he focused on Wednesday’s crunch Champions League semi-final second leg against Manchester City at home and thus benched the likes of Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Vinicius Junior.

Los Blancos’ party kicked off on 33 minutes after a lovely one-two between Brazilian duo Marcelo and Rodrygo down the left, which led to the latter breaking the deadlock.

Real appeared to have sealed the championship 10 minutes later when a careless Leandro Cabrera was dispossessed by Mariano Diaz at the back and Rodrygo scored his second from the left.

The Madrid giants weren’t done there as Marco Asensio made it three after a counter-attack that saw Eduardo Camavinga setting him up down the right to beat Diego Lopez on 55 minutes.

But the replay showed Espanyol’s Aleix Vidal probably deserved a penalty in the build-up, something VAR failed to pick up on.

Ancelotti brought Benzema on and the star striker appeared to have earned an assist when he set Isco up in the area but his goal was overruled as Rodrygo was obstructing Lopez’s view from an offside position.

However, Benzema wouldn’t be denied and scored nine minutes before full-time after a crisp low cross from Vinicius Junior out the right flank set him up inside the area.

  • Casemiro reacts

Real Madrid star Casemiro insists it is important to remain focused on Manchester City despite winning the league.

Casemiro said: "It's a perfect year-round job. Leagues are won like this, with a lot of work and regularity. That is the most important.

"The League is always the most difficult, that's why we're the biggest and we have 35. We have to enjoy ourselves because it's not easy to win.

"The League is won match by match, not only with my goal. To win Leagues you have to have squads, that's the key.

"Even if you lose a game you can't lower your arms. Even if you win, you have to keep adding. The great virtue of winning the League is to add and never win the arms.

"Let's go to Cibeles to enjoy. We can't enjoy it too much because another very important game is coming up on Wednesday, but we have to enjoy it.

"Now that we can celebrate together we have to do it. With their support, which is always very important"
