MANCHESTER UNITED need to be finding the next Erling Haaland NOW to launch their rebuild.

That is the view of interim boss Ralf Rangnick who is about to move into a consultancy role with the club, while juggling his duties as Austria manager.

He wants the Old Trafford big wigs to ditch their policy of buying established names and find young players who will grow into the stars of the future while at the club.

Rangnick said: “My opinion is the club should try to find future top players and try to develop them.

Haaland is 21 or 22, this is one of those players, he has developed into one of the most expensive strikers in the world.

“He would be one of those examples I think the emphasis should be on, we need to convince those sort of players to be Manchester United players for the coming next years.”

Of course former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried to land Haaland having coached him at Molde.

Instead the son of former Manchester City star Alf-Inge Haaland was advised to move from Rangnick’s former club Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund.

That has just been a stepping stone for the 21-year-old and while United have tried again to land him they accept the striker is now bound for either City or Real Madrid.

He has a £63million release clause at Dortmund, which City are set to trigger with a contract worth around £500,000 a week waiting for him at The Etihad.

Haaland has hit an incredible 82 goals in 86 appearances since making his debut for Dortmund in January 2020 to establish himself as the best young striker in the world.

The Norway international has registered a total of 25 goals and eight assists in 27 matches across all competitions this season.
