PHIL-IN' GOOD

Watch Phil Foden’s delicious assist for Kevin De Bruyne’s Man City opener just 79 SECONDS after coming on as sub

PHIL FODEN needed just a few seconds to make an impact for Manchester City against Atletico Madrid.

The 21-year-old star was surprisingly left out of the starting line-up for the Champions League clash by Pep Guardiola.

But he still had a huge say in how the quarter final first-leg at the Etihad against the LaLiga winners ended up.

With the game goalless, Foden entered the fray in the 68th minute as part of a triple substitution by Guardiola.

And the change paid off instantly for Man City as he provided the assist for Kevin De Bruyne’s winner.

Foden received the ball with his back to goal around 30 yards out but turned quickly, and before a hefty challenge came in, his quick-feet enabled him to slide a pass through for De Bruyne to run on to and finish.

That proved to be enough for last season’s beaten finalists to secure the advantage before the return leg in the Spanish capital.

It comes after it emerged that Foden has agreed a new deal in principle with the Premier League champions back in October - but has yet to sign on the dotted line.

The playmaker is believed to be set to earn £150,000 a week with his improved package at the Etihad.

City's top three highest earners are Belgian playmaker Kevin de Bruyne, Jack Grealish, and Raheem Sterling on more than £200k a week.

After the game, De Bruyne said: "The first half was tight in the second half we had a couple of chances and it was good that we took one.

"I made the run and Phil [Foden] found me perfectly, I needed to stay composed and luckily I did. It's very hard.

"They played with almost five at the back and with five in midfield.

"I recommend anyone that says anything [about us], that they try playing against that on the training ground."

"We have to stay composed and don’t try to get into their action. It is the way they play.

"One nil is one nil. I expect similar over there. If the game is tight they will have to attack a little bit more.
