Jeff Stelling leaves Soccer Saturday studio laughing with opening speech in first appearance since deciding to stay on

SOCCER SATURDAY host Jeff Stelling left the Sky Sports studio in stitches when he improvised a speech for his first show back since announcing his extension.

Last October the 67-year-old announced live on air that he would retire at the end of the season.

However, he recently made a dramatic U-turn and confirmed that he will remain as host for next year.

He said: "Sky Sports is my home. And the Soccer Saturday team are a big part of my life.

"As the end of the season approached, and I was preparing to say goodbye, I realised that I was not ready to blow the final whistle and leave the best job in the world.

"I'm thrilled to be staying and excited about moving the show forward and creating more special Saturday afternoons on Sky Sports."

On Saturday he returned to the channel for the first time since the announcement.

And did so in triumphant fashion, referencing 1980's pop royalty Bucks Fizz.

When introducing the show, he said: "Hello, a very good afternoon you all.

"The Premier League is back, Soccer Saturday is back and most importantly I'm back as well.
