Many Premier League clubs are plotting how to spend their spare time when the World Cup finals are on in Qatar this winter.

Manager Howe claimed that the training camp in Jeddah had been a resounding success with the squad bonding in the desert and meeting with the new owners.

However, there was a sour note as Ciaran Clark was sent off for punching an opponent during a friendly.

Clark was shown a straight red card after lashing out at Al-Ittihad striker Abdo Hamdallah.

Newcastle won 2-1 thanks to goals from Allan Saint-Maximin and Ryan Fraser.

The Toon were embroiled in a heated relegation scrap before their new owners arrived.

But it appears like the Tyneside giants have managed to avoid danger after the key signings of Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett and Dan Burn in the January transfer window.

Newcastle are 14th in the Premier League table with nine points separating them from the relegation zone.
