But tensions were already rising with the scores still goalless as trouble broke out.

Wolfsburg sub Aster Vranckx was in the middle of it as he clashed with opponent Kerem Demirbay.

The pair were soon backed up respectively by their team-mates in a huge pushing and shoving match.

The ref raced over to break up the trouble, and afterwards the official got card happy as he waved a yellow at four players in comedic fashion.

That was not the only trouble that occurred in Germany’s top-flight over the weekend.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham was left raging after his boot was ripped in half after a nasty challenge.

The 18-year-old is due to meet up with Gareth Southgate’s England squad on Tuesday at St. George’s Park.

But he can count himself fortunate that he did not miss out on the friendly matches against Switzerland and Ivory Coast by narrowly avoiding injury in the Bundesliga clash.

The incident occured in the 52nd minute as the midfielder received the ball from Taphael Guerreiro.

The Liverpool transfer target was nastily brought down by Cologne’s Salih Ozcan in what looked like a stamp.

Thankfully for England, Dortmund and Bellingham his ankle somehow escaped unhurt.

But the ex-Birmingham City teen was furious and showed off the extent of the damage caused to his boot.

He threw the tattered footwear down onto the turf in anger as he looked towards the official for some sort of action.

But the referee did not even award a freekick to Dortmund for the horrible challenge.
