Wales 21-22 Italy rugby LIVE RESULT: Italy WIN in Six Nations for first time in SEVEN YEARS after Capuozzo brilliance

ITALY have overcome overwhelming odds to defeat Wales in Cardiff.

An incredible run from Ange Capuozzo set up Eduardo Padovani to score the winning try with the last play of the match.

Dragons winger Josh Adams thought he would be the hero after he made a try-saving tackle on Monty Ioane then scored a try of his own.

However, he ended up so impressed with Capuozzo's effort that he handed him his Man of the Match.

And that incredible victory is Italy's first in the Six Nations for seven years.

  • Adams struggles to speak

Man of the match Josh Adams was lost for words at Wales' capitulation.

He said: "I'm gutted. I don't know what to say, we weren't good enough.

"I'm just really disappointed we couldn't get the win for Alun Wyn Jones and Dan Biggar.

"Discipline was one of our big problems, we gave away a lot of penalties in the first and second half.

"We talked a lot before the game about starting quickly, and we didn't start quickly.

"We have to respect Italy, they're a really good team and they deserved to win today. I'm really gutted, really gutted."

  • Pivac congratulates Italy on comeback

Wales boss Wayne Pivac admits 'enthusiastic' Italy did well to come back against his men.

Pivac said: "Dan Biggar is 100% on the money, we didn't start the way we wanted to.

"We conceded 12 points in the first half through ill-discipline in the first half and left a couple of tries out there, we weren't accurate enough.

"To get back in the lead and throw it away is very disappointing.

"The Italians here came with more enthusiasm than we did but we still should have won that game of rugby.

"We'll review that and make sure we learn from that.

"It's frustrating, we knew it would be tough this year and that's how it's been, we improved throughout the competition and today we let ourselves down."

  • Biggar slams Wales performance

Wales captain Dan Biggar was not happy with his side surrendering today's game.

He said: "It's probably the toughest interview I've had to do, simply not good enough.

"It's so poor to lose it from where we were, we've played poorly all day but to not finish it off from 70 metres from our line.

"We've said in the huddle now that's probably last chance for a lot of players.

"I think we're a bit unlucky on the try, Wyn [Jones] thinks he's scored the try when it goes to TMO, if that's given the game is different but it wasn't.

"We were chasing as high as we could get and from the get go we weren't quite at it and you get punished.

"Too many boys not quite up to speed, we were second to loose balls and balls in the air.

"It's really disappointing that something that we pride ourselves on that requires no talent is work ethic."

  • Italians stop losing streak

Italy boss Kieran Crowley admits he's thrilled Italy's 35-game losing streak has finally come to an end.

He said: "I'm just really proud, there was a bit of adversity and sickness in the camp this week.

"They dug in and kept playing, believing, defence was outstanding and they stuck at it. People can't say we've lost 36 in a row!

"There was a lot of emotion, Marius Goosen our defence coach has been there six years and won his first Six Nations game, you'd think we'd won the World Cup!

"We had some measures to measure ourselves by, not the results and this gives us a base going forward now."

  • Hook in mouth

Former Wales star James Hook had plenty to say after the shock scoreline.

He told BBC Sport: "Before the game we were talking about Wales winning the game by about 20 or 30 points.

"We forgot there was a desperate Italy in front of us, and they came and produced and created everything.

"It's difficult to change the head coach now, especially with a World Cup coming up next year.

"Who do you go for, for a start?"

  • Measure of the man

Josh Adams was handed the Man of the Match award after a try-saving tackle by Monty Ioane, followed by a try of his own that appeared to have won the match.

However, Ange Capuozzo had other ideas as he went on an incredible run to set up Eduardo Padovani to win the game for Italy.

And after witnessing the try, Adams handed his award over to triumphant Italian Capuozzo.

  • All roads lead to Rome

While Italy will be heading home with some major hangovers tomorrow, this will be a day these players will never forget.

In a tournament where all of the talk has been about their participation, The Azzurri answered their critics in the best way possible.

  • 'Super Saturday' off to a flyer

With a last-gasp Italy win in Cardiff shocking the home faithful, we can only hope the other games offer us similar drama.

As Ireland entertain Scotland, the home side looking for a win that may well win them the Six Nations title.

  • Italy silence their critics

What a finish to the game.

No one can deny Italy their win, they fully deserved it and potentially should have been further ahead before Wales scored.

Josh Adams' last ditch challenge prevented Ioane in the corner earlier before Wales retook the lead.

Toulouse's new signing Capuozzo wasn't having any of it.

He ran the length of the pitch side-stepping challenges before feeding a pass to Padovani to go over the line.
