Wolfsburg take Brexit dig at Arsenal ahead of Women’s Champions League quarter-final clash
WOLFSBURG took a cheeky swipe at Arsenal by comically dubbing the second leg of their Champions League duel the ‘next Brexit’.
The Women’s Bundesliga side included the jokey remark in a post shared on social media plugging their March 31st duel.
The message via their Twitter account includes a flashily designed graphic featuring a collage of Wolfsburg forward and ex-Gunner Jill Roord.
And the graphic, shared with the club’s 14,000 followers, includes a caption in block capitals which reads ‘The Next Brexit?’
In response Arsenal’s admin shared a of their own with a meme of centre-back Leah Williamson with a shocked expression on her face.
The light-hearted banter between the sides comes two months after Wolfsburg ended Chelsea’s European trophy hopes this term with a 4-0 group stage defeat.
Jonas Eidevall’s aces will be looking to dispatch their rivals in a bid to reach the contest semi-finals for the first time since 2013.
The clash at the Volkswagen Arena will follow their first leg duel at the Emirates on Wednesday 23 March.

The game will see the WSL leaders go up against their former striker Roord who scored seven times in 15 league starts for the Gunners last season.
This term the Netherlands ace has netted seven goals in 13 appearances for Wolfsburg in Germany’s top tier.
Arsenal, who finished second behind Barcelona in Group C of the Champions League, are targeting a first win against Wolfsburg in the competition.
The last time the two sides met was in the 2012-13 semi-finals with the German side beating the Gunners 4-1 over two legs.
And skipper Kim Little was on the score sheet for the club nabbing a consolation in the second leg of the tie.
