Team GB curling heroes land in UK after boozy first-class flight home from Beijing Winter Olympics

TEAM GB curlers enjoyed a champagne-laden first class flight home on Monday following their Beijing heroics .

The Gold-winning women's team and the Silver-winning men's squad chinked flutes of bubbly as they toasted their Winter Olympics success.

Captain Eve Muirhead, 31, of Stirling, posted a snap of her posing with her gold medal in the plane cockpit wearing the pilot’s hat.

After touching down at Heathrow in London on Monday night, she said on the BBC’s One Show: “Sometimes you just don’t know whether your dream of winning that gold medal will come true.

“Thankfully it has. There was a lot of hard work put in and I’m very proud of these four girls sitting next to me.

“Standing on that podium with them was such a great moment.”

She added that after some more competitions in Scotland and Canada to finish the season, they’re all “looking forward to a long summer and I’m sure a sunny holiday as well.”

Curling heroes Eve Muirhead, Vicky Wright, Jennifer Dodds, Hailey Duff and Mili Smith were all smiles as they showed off their prizes.

Mili, of Perth, daughter of former champion curler David Smith,said: “I don’t think he could really believe it.

“He said I would never believe how proud he was and he was just so happy for me.”

Vicky, a nurse from Forfar, is heading back to work next Tuesday.

She added: “I’m excited to go back in and see everyone. It will be so surreal going back and seeing the girls and say ‘hi got a medal, here we are’”

Men’s captain Bruce Mouat, 27, of Edinburgh, told his social media followers: “This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember and you have all made it that bit more special with the lovely messages.

“Please know I have seen them and they have put a massive smile on my face.”

He celebrated on the 15-hour flight home alongside teammates Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie, Hammy McMillan and Ross Whyte.
