Man Utd should STRIP Harry Maguire of captaincy and give it to the one player everyone respects, claims Paul Parker
MANCHESTER UNITED should give Harry Maguire the boot as captain, according to club legend Paul Parker.
The centre-back has come in for heavy criticism for his performances this season as the Red Devils battle to finish in the top four.
Reports have even suggested Maguire is locked in a power struggle with striker Cristiano Ronaldo for the job of skipper.
And now Parker has weighed in to say interim boss Ralf Rangnick should give the armband to someone ‘who they all respect’.
He told : “I don’t think Harry Maguire should be captain of Manchester United.
“He’s got too much going on in his own game to worry about rather than trying to lead a team which he’d only just joined and in a few seconds gets the captaincy.
“I think that was more off his price tag rather than the side of him as a person, as a leader of men.
“And at the moment I think the one who should be captain is the one they all respect is David De Gea. Because to be a captain you have to respect a player.
“De Gea has to be the most respected player in that United team because he’s the one who’s actually kept them in the position to be fourth in the league at this moment in time.”

Maguire moved to Old Trafford from Leicester for £85million in 2019, becoming the most expensive defender in world football.
He was named club captain by then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shortly after.
But this term has seen his form nosedive after an impressive European Championships with England last summer.
And Parker reckons it’s time other defenders were given the chance in the United backline.
He added: “Maguire wouldn’t be in my first choice back four because he’s not in form.
“You’ve got Phil Jones, who did really well in his first game, got a bit emotional after, you saw everything that went.
“I’d like to see Lindelof come back in because I think people are looking at him now who have maybe judged him wrongly.”
