Team GB guaranteed first medal at Winter Olympics two weeks into tournament as men reach curling final

TEAM GB are guaranteed their FIRST medal of the Winter Olympics in the men’s curling.

Britain’s men, led by Bruce Mouat, beat USA 8-4 to reach the gold medal match in Beijing in a dramatic, final-stone thriller.

That means Team GB will win at least silver – but will gunning for the gold.

The Brit team of Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan will go for gold against Sweden on Saturday morning, in a 6.05am start UK time.

On the incredible win, Mouat told BBC Sport: “I’m excited to play that game.

“We’ve got a day off tomorrow but just looking forward to hopefully going for that gold. I’m shaking.

“We play a lot of these two games days on tour so we were happy to get the win.

“The last two weeks for myself has been a bit of a rollercoaster and I’m just so excited to share this with the guys and that celebration at the end was just pure elation…

“I don’t think I can sum it up any other way.”

Hardie added: “After my missed shot in the second end for them to steal a two, you’re fearing the worst but we all stuck together, turned that round and we’re chuffed.”

Lammy claimed: “They’re quite out there as a team, they speak a lot, but we knew we had to bring that energy as well.

“Even after that two, we knew we still had to keep together, keep fighting, keep going for it and thankfully we managed to pull through.”

McMillan said: “We kept control. We were quite happy blanking and we knew the percentages at the seventh end and not giving up a two was key.”
