Players including Marcus Rashford, 24, have had their blood, saliva and urine analysed to create diet plans.

They are weighed every week and have been told to swap red meat for monkfish, salmon and chicken.

Rangnick, 63, has told players they need to get in better shape after United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough and held to a 1-1 draw by the Premier League’s bottom side, Burnley.

A source said: “Ralf has high standards and wants to play a pressing game — but the players are not fit enough.

“He’s analysed all the data and identified what they need to cut out of their diets and eat more of.

“There’s no more bacon sandwiches or burgers on rest days and he’s banned boozing and ordered them all into the gym for extra sessions.”

Skipper Harry Maguire, 28, is among those spending more time working out in a bid to rediscover his lost form.

The insider said: “Ralf wants to play a higher defensive line and if Harry is to feature in that, he needs to be leaner and quicker.”

Superfit Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, has also been dishing out exercise and dietary advice to his teammates.

The source said: “Ronaldo is advising and mentoring teammates on workouts and eating, and they’re all trying to follow his lead.”
