DERBY DILEMMA

Wycombe owner jets into UK to sort out compensation worth up to £14m over Derby controversy after Boro reach agreement

Wycombe owner Rob Couhig is flying in from America to sort out his multi-million compensation claim with Wayne Rooney's Derby County.

Lawyer Couhig is making the unscheduled trip after Middlesbrough chief Steve Gibson settled his dispute with the club.

That decision isolates Wycombe who want cash for being relegated last season as the EFL failed to punish Derby on time.

Couhig's legal team have asked for compensation, with the figure between £6 and £14 million, and he wants to find out the status of that cash bid.

The EFL have ruled that Wycombe and Boro have 'football related debts' that need to be sorted before Derby can exit administration.

Morris refused to acknowledge Wycombe's argument as he settled with Gibson privately and the admins have tried to 'compress' the claim unsuccessfully.

Couhig is now at the centre of the storm and has admitted there was room for negotiation.

Their demands are still an obstacle and have moved up the 'to do' list after the Boro agreement.

The EFL will have to be satisfied with Wycombe's position but are pleased with the other progress.

A statement said: "The EFL welcomes today’s positive development that an agreement has now been reached regarding Middlesbrough claim against Derby County.

"The League will now continue to work with all relevant parties on finding the appropriate solutions that will secure a long term future for Derby County.“

An agreement between the Rams and Boro was made just a day before Wayne Rooney and Co travel to the River Side to take on promotion chasing Middlesbrough.
