Charlie Edwards v John Riel Casimero: Edwards’ dreams of world title crushed as he is KO’d in 10th round by Filipino
CHARLIE EDWARDS was stopped by John Riel Casimero as he challenged for world honours in just his NINTH pro fight.
Although it was always going to be a big ask, the 23-year-old Surrey fighter was confident he could finish the night as the IBF flyweight champion.
Casimero, 26, was cut above the eye in the fourth round, while Edwards’ legs where buckled by a shuddering right uppercut.
The Filipino's right over the top was a constant threat, yet Edwards grew in confidence as the fight reached the midway point.
But Edwards was floored in the tenth round and although he beat the count, ref Steve Gray waved it off shortly afterwards as the champion poured on the pressure.
