Ex-Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri completes shock £5.5m transfer to MLS side Chicago Fire after horror stint at Lyon
XHERDAN SHAQIRI has completed a surprise move to MLS club Chicago Fire.
Ex-Liverpool ace Shaqiri has moved to the US following a £5.5million deal between the Fire and his former club Lyon.
The playmaker is reuniting with Chicago's sporting director Georg Heitz, with whom he worked during his three-year stint at Basel.
Heitz said: "We're extremely pleased to formally welcome Xherdan Shaqiri to the Fire.
"Xherdan is a game-changing player and someone who will bring joy to our supporters and the city of Chicago.
"As one of the most accomplished Swiss athletes of his generation, Xherdan joins us at a very important time for the club and fully believes in what we are aiming to accomplish.
"We look forward to welcoming him and his family to Chicago very soon."
Shaqiri decided to move to the other side of the Atlantic after a horror six-month spell at Lyon.

The Swiss international has started just 13 games for Lyon this season despite the French side struggling down in 8th place.
He has scored only two goals and added three assists.
He has signed a contract until 2024 as the Fire's Designated Player.
It is not clear when Shaqiri will make his debut as his move is pending a receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
