Chelsea fans stunned by Kepa role
Fans took to Twitter to react to Chelsea sub keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga's shootout horror show in the Carabao Cup Final, writes CHISANGA MALATA.
The Spanard missed the decisive penalty in Chelsea's defeat to Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday evening after 21 perfect spot-kicks.
After failing to save opposite number Caoimhín Kelleher's penalty, the former Athletic Bilbao ace blazed his pen over the crossbar.
And footy fans flocked to Twitter in their thousands to mock the miss, with one saying: "FFS, Kepa.
"That balls gonna be travelling for days now."
Another said: "My God, Kepa."
And another said: "Kepa shot for the stars and aimed for the moon."
One remarked: "Imagine being Kepa, or in fact Mendy. What a nightmare."
Fifa ban Russia home games
RUSSIA have NOT been kicked out of the World Cup despite the invasion of Ukraine, writes DANIEL CUTTS.
FIFA released a statement tonight confirming they will not boot them out of the Qatar tournament.
It comes after Poland, Sweden and Czech Republic refused to face them next month. The news that they will not been exiled from Qatar in November and December this year has caused fury.
Fifa did put sanctions on the country, but are in talks to try and get the qualifiers to go ahead.
: "No international competition shall be played on the territory of Russia, with “home” matches being played on neutral territory and without spectators.

Foxes eye Chelsea starlet Colwill
Leicester are reportedly lining up a summer swoop to sign Chelsea starlet Levi Colwill following his standout displays on loan at Huddersfield.
The 19-year-old has earned rave reviews for the Championship side where he has featured in 22 games in all competitions this term.
Colwill has been instrumental in the Yorkshire outfit's promotion push - helping the Terriers reach third in the table.
The centre-back scored on his return to the side on Saturday in the 2-0 away win at Birmingham.
Prior to his outing at St Andrew's, the England youth international had missed the last eight games with a knee injury.
And Chelsea aren't the only ones who have been keeping close tabs on Colwill's development at Huddersfield.
According to the , Leicester have sent scouts to watch the youngster in action this term on a number of occasions.
And they say Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the defender to the King Power Stadium at the end of the season as he looks to bolster his backline.
Chelsea sub ratings
Reece James (for Azpilicueta, 57) - 6
Worried Chelsea fans when he went down in stoppage time, having only just returned from a long-term absence. Scored his penalty before shushing those clad in red.
Romelu Lukaku (for Mount, 74) - 6
Laid the ball off for Werner in stoppage time, although you never fancied Chelsea's No11 to score. Belgian saw an instinctive effort stopped by Kelleher. Finished superbly after sitting down Ibrahima Konate... only to be denied by the tightest of offside calls. Scored his penalty in the shoot-out.
Timo Werner (for Pulisic, 74) - 5
Raced in-behind with his searing pace before centring for Havertz to score... only for his compatriot to be denied by the offside flag. Wasted a stoppage-time opening. Saw his penalty just about squirm through Kelleher's grasp.
Jorginho (for Kovacic, 116) - 6
Immediately executed a 50 yard switch after coming on, before nearly playing Lukaku through with a lofted pass. Produced a hop, skip and a converted spot kick.
Kepa Arrizabalaga (for Mendy, 119) - 1
Spaniard was brought on for penalties, having saved four in shoot-outs this term - but failed to save any of 11 before smashing over the bar to hand Liverpool victory.
Subs not used: Malang Sarr, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Saul Niguez, Callum Hudson-Odoi
Rest of the Chelsea starting XI ratings
KAI HAVERTZ - 7
Oozed elegance as he dropped deep early on, knitting things together for the Blues.
Was spared his blushes by a belated offside flag on 36 minutes, when he dribbled an attempted chip wide of Kelleher's net. Should have had an assist in the 45th minute, when his clipped pass picked out Mount.
Began the second-half by gliding past Joel Matip to the byline before driving a low cross through the six-yard box - only for none of his pals in Blue to reach it.
German was unlucky to be denied a late winner in the 90 minutes by the offside flag, before being thwarted again by the linesman in extra time. Calmly scored his penalty in the shoot-out.
CHRISTIAN PULISIC - 6
Denied a sixth minute opener from close range by Kelleher when he really should have scored. Might have done better when slipped in-behind by Havertz later in the first-half.
After his mid-week heroics, Pulisic struggled to make much of an impact on his final before being replaced by Werner - although would have had an assist if Mount had converted his delicately chipped through ball.
Chelsea ratings continued
MATEO KOVACIC - 6
Wound Liverpool up with a number of hard tackles - some clean, some not - in the opening 45.
Croatian was booked late on for an incredibly cynical challenge, stopping a Salah counter-attack. Battled for every blade of grass before being replaced by Jorginho in extra time.
MARCOS ALONSO - 6
Drew jeers from the Liverpool faithful, as well as a frustrated wave of Thomas Tuchel's arms, when he passed the ball straight out of play under little pressure.
Spaniard's clumsy foul on Mo Salah presented Liverpool a free-kick in an inviting position - with Trent Alexander-Arnold's subsequent set-piece nodded down into the path of Joel Matip to score...only for the goal to be controversially disallowed.
Converted from the spot in the penalty shoot-out.
MASON MOUNT - 5
Somehow volleyed a Kai Havertz centre wide with the goal at his mercy on the stroke of half-time.
Came agonisingly close to an opener in the 48th minute, striking the inside of the post with the goal at his mercy after being sublimely picked out by Pulisic's clipped pass.
Drove an effort down Kelleher's throat after one-twoing with Havertz. England starlet was replaced by Romelu Lukaku late on.
More Chelsea ratings
ANTONIO RUDIGER - 8
Nearly caught out by Mo Salah, when an Andy Robertson cross drifted over his shoulder, although the German was largely able to keep the Egyptian quiet down his channel.
Got involved in his weekly shoving match in extra time - this time with Harvey Elliott and James Milner.
Nearly allowed Salah to nip through with just five minutes remaining with a slack pass, but recovered brilliantly with a last-ditch challenge. Made no mistake from the penalty spot as the shoot-out reached sudden death.
CESAR AZPILICUETA - 5
Excellent composure to pick out Christian Pulisic early on, only for the American to be denied by Caoimhin Kelleher. The Spaniard drilled a 42nd minute left-footed effort wide from the edge of the penalty area.
Chelsea skipper struggled at times to deal with the pace and directness of Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane, before appearing to pick up a knock and being replaced by the fit-again Reece James.
N'GOLO KANTE - 6
Frenchman was made to battle manfully in the first-half, and was fortunate to get away without even conceding a free-kick after rugby tackling Andy Robertson to the ground.
Kante was Chelsea's seventh penalty taker, but tucked it away like a seasoned striker.
Chelsea final ratings
EDOUARD MENDY - 8
Produced an incredible double save on the half hour, denying Naby Keita's driven effort and Sadio Mane's close-range rebound.
Afcon-winning star was out in a flash to thwart Mane in the 51st minute - appearing to take an inadvertent whack in the process.
Mendy was fortunate to get away with a miscued clearance, with Thiago Silva eventually getting back to clear, but later recovered well to deny Luis Diaz not once, but twice. Chelsea's undoubted No1 then kept out Virgil van Dijk's bullet header in stoppage time.
TREVOH CHALOBAH - 7
Lucky to be bailed out by his team-mates in the 12th minute, after being beaten very easily by Sadio Mane. Was caught out again by the Senegalese star just a few minutes later, although Antonio Rudiger was on hand to clear.
Continued to battle hard despite his difficult assignments, and took a very painful boot to the upper thigh in a 50-50 with Naby Keita. Young defender grew into his task.
Brilliantly scored from 12 yards as Chelsea's tenth penalty taker.
THIAGO SILVA - 7
Had the stretcher-bearers on alert in the 13th minute after appearing to sustain a shoulder issue, but managed to shrug off the pain.
Brazilian got back brilliantly to clear Mo Salah's chip after it'd beaten Mendy.
Converted from the spot.

Liverpool won an extraordinary penalty shootout to lift the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea trustees in limbo
The six trustees handed control of Chelsea have NOT yet agreed to take over, writes DANIEL CUTTS.
Billionaire Roman Abramovich sensationally handed stewardship to the charitable group last night.
It comes amid his homeland Russia invading neighbouring Ukraine by order of president Vladimir Putin.
, members of new leadership met on Sunday to discuss the situation.
But there are concerns over what the Charity Commission rules would allow them to do with the club.
Lawyers are now looking into it, and to check if they will be able to run the Stamford Bridge outfit as they want.
Emotional good-Bie
Marcelo Bielsa cut an emotional figure as he said goodbye to Leeds fans outside Elland Road after being sacked, writes JACK FIGG.
The popular Argentine was mobbed by supporters as he posed for pictures and signed autographs.
It comes on the same day Bielsa's dismissal at Leeds was confirmed, following a shocking run of results.
The Premier League strugglers aim to announce a new manager tomorrow.
Bielsa spent four years at Elland Road, getting them promoted from the Championship.
But he has struggled to help them kick-on this season following a series of worrying performances.
Hammers give Ukraine star time off
West Ham have given Andriy Yarmolenko time off playing duties due to the conflict in Ukraine.
David Moyes says Russia’s attack on the striker's homeland has had a considerable effect on him.
The 32-year-old was born in Russia to Ukrainian parents who returned to the country when the player was three.
Moyes said: “He’s not in a really good position, I’ve got to say. We’ve given him a few days off and it’s totally understandable.
“The club have been very good, asked me to speak with him and if there’s anything we can do for him, we’ll certainly help him.
“He’s asked me just now if he can have a few days off and I’ve granted him that. It’s a real difficult time for him and his family, and we respect that.”
Souness salvo for Saiss
Graeme Souness slammed Romain Saiss for leaving Thomas Soucek unmarked after Wolves fell to a 1-0 loss to West Ham.
Soucek was given space to run into the penalty box and knock the ball past Jose Sa after latching on to Michail Antonio's cross.
After the game, Souness said: "It's shocking and beggars belief what he is thinking at that particular time, you defend the middle of your goal.
"I mean he has to take his line off (Conor) Coady...if you go back to the very beginning they never look over their shoulders, they never look to the left-hand side to see where the danger may come from.
"They should have their bodies open and know exactly where the West Ham players are."
Thiago tearful
Thiago was reduced to tears after a warm-up injury denied him the chance of featuring for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
The Spain ace was expected to be in Jurgen Klopp's starting 11 against Chelsea at Wembley.
But it was revealed he suffered a knock ahead of the game with a Naby Keita starting in his place.
Fans on social media expressed sympathy for the former Bayern Munich player.
One tweeted: "Heartbroken for Thiago, you can see how much he wanted to play."
Cech reflects on Ukraine
Petr Cech says Russia's invasion of Ukraine has been on players' minds at Chelsea.
The Blues technical director's comments come a day after Roman Abramovich gave control of the club to trustees from its charitable foundation.
Cech, 39, told Sky Sports: "We cannot deny that there is a conflict and war in Europe that is affecting everybody.
"Every human being has their thoughts with those affected and it is the same at our club. We obviously hope that the situation will be resolved as soon as possible.
"As a club we prepare the game and try to do things as normal, but it is a distraction, not only for the players but everyone around the world."
Go for Diogo
Danny Murphy has tipped Liverpool to overcome Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final today.
And former Anfield midfielder believes Diogo Jota could make Jurgen Klopp's starting eleven with Roberto Firmino ruled out of action.
Murphy told Sky Sports: "I think it will depend on Jota's fitness. If Jota is fit, I think he will start with (Sadio) Mane and (Mohamed) Salah, with Luis Diaz coming off the bench.
"It's good that they've got options now and they're not so reliant on the normal front three of Firmino, Mane and Salah as they have been in previous season.
"I think we've seen with both Liverpool and Chelsea over the past few months just how important the substitutions can be.
"It's not just about the first eleven, you've now got quality on both benches, that can come off the bench and win games of football with 20 minutes to go."
Big Sam's the man
Leeds United are being urged to bring Sam Allardyce in as a replacement for Marcelo Bielsa.
The club dropped the axe on the Argentinian's Elland Road reign after four years in charge.
Richard Keys reckon Allardyce could help turnaround Leeds' recent run of poor results.
However Red Bull Salzburg gaffer Jesse Marsch has been linked with the post.
Keys told beIN Sports: "I would be on the phone to Sam Allardyce as we speak and say we only have one objective... Just get us safe!"
Yarmo concern
West Ham have given Andriy Yarmolenko time off playing duties due to conflict in Ukraine.
David Moyes says Russia's attack inside on player's homeland has had a considerable effect on him.
'No respect'
Gary Neville reckons Leeds have been showing little respect for some of their opponents on the pitch.
The Man United hero was reacting to the news of the club sacking of Marcelo Bielsa from his manager's role.
The announcement came a day after the club's 4-0 loss to Tottenham on Saturday.
Neville told Sky Sports Super Sunday: "We know that Marcelo Bielsa had his values and principles, which we know he’s not going to change, and that has ultimately cost him.
“But there didn’t seem to be a lot of respect on the pitch for the opposition players and just chance after chance, goal after goal against your goalkeeper.
"But it is a bit of sadness because Leeds were exciting to watch.”
Rodri handball
The Premier League have explained why VAR decided not to given Everton a penalty against Manchester City.
Toffees boss Frank Lampard was infuriated are his side were denied a spot-kick after a handball by Man City midfielder Rodri.
The Everton manager raged that his three-year-old daughter could see it was a handball.
However acting VAR for the game Chris Kavanagh stuck with Paul Tierney's on-field decision not to penalise Rodri.
And following the game the Premier League explained the decision stood because there was 'not clear enough evidence to show conclusively that it was handball'.
All in for Erling
Manchester City are reportedly leading the chase for Erling Haaland's signature.
German news outlet Bild claims the Borussia Dortmund is open to the idea of a Premier League move.
This is despite reports of the striker being heavily linked with a move to Spain and Real Madrid.
Pep Guardiola is thought to be keen on signing the forward who has scored 23 goals in 20 games this term.
And the player has a £63million release clause which becomes active next summer.
Not slick for City
Virgil van Dijk reckons Manchester City will feel 'uncomfortable' at the top of the Prem with their title rivals eager to chase them down.
The Liverpool centre-back and his team-mates hope to derail City's bid to win a fourth Premier League title in five terms.
Pep Guardiola's side bounced back from a surprise loss to Tottenham to beat Everton on Saturday.
And they currently have a six-point lead on Liverpool who have a game in hand and face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final later.
Van Dijk, 30, told the Daily Mail: "A couple of years ago, we were in the hotseat where we were a few points in front and it was tough and we gave it away.
"It is not a very comfortable place to be. It is not easy to deal with the pressure but City have proven they can because they are unbelievable."
