Jadon Sancho not in Man Utd squad to face Brentford after taking bereavement leave to go to family member’s funeral

JADON SANCHO was left out of the Manchester United squad for Wednesday's 3-1 win at Brentford due to personal reasons.

Red Devils manager Ralf Rangnick revealed his absence is due to a family bereavement.

The German said: "There was the funeral today, he asked me if he could (not play).

"It would not make sense for him to be part of the squad.”

On Saturday Sancho came on as a substitute against Aston Villa in place of Anthony Elanga, who started on the left flank once again and hit a fine opener.

Mason Greenwood also retained his place on the right and bagged the second goal, with sub Marcus Rashford clinically dispatching the third goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned after injury injury but was furious at being taken off.

There was also a return for Anthony Martial after Rangnick claimed he refused to travel for United's previous match.

The Frenchman denied that claim stating he would never refuse to play for United - and he is back involved with the matchday squad despite rumours linking him with a move abroad.

Meanwhile, Rangnick also welcomed back Scott McTominay from suspension - he started alongside Fred in midfield.

Captain Harry Maguire was also back in the fold and came on for Ronaldo, with Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof starting once again.
