IAN WRIGHT has urged Arsenal to sign Georgino Wijnaldum to solve their midfield crisis.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta admitted on Friday that he wants to bolster his squad this month after being left ‘short’ in that area.
Both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny have headed off for Africa Cup of Nations duty while Ainsley Maitland-Niles is spending the rest of the campaign on loan at Roma.
That has left Arsenal severely lacking in midfield - a problem that could scupper their hopes of finishing in the top four.
Arteta has been linked with a swoop to bring Aaron Ramsey back to the club from Juventus.
However, Arsenal’s former star striker Wright is adamant that Paris Saint-Germain’s wantaway Dutchman is the man to solve their problems.
Former Liverpool man Wijnaldum has endured a nightmare in Ligue 1 since leaving Anfield last summer and has been linked with a return to England.
Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Wright said: “I saw Wijnaldum's name. That would be amazing. A loan signing from PSG.
“Someone like that in the midfield. Of that experience. He is a Premier League winner. Just to help with the youngsters and a Sambi Lokonga just to keep it going.
“Then, they can add to the squad and, all of a sudden, Arsenal can start challenging and challenging seriously.”
Arteta said this week: “We are very, very short at the moment.
“So obviously we are going to move, and we are going to look for options, because we are very short.”
