As a result, the club is in discussion over who to appoint next with Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag all targeted, according to .

Pochettino is awaiting an offer to succeed Rangnick and it is likely the Paris Saint-Germain boss will accept.

The United hierarchy are keen to replace Rangnick as they feel he does not exert enough authority over his players.

Whether or not Poch arrives in Manchester could be shaped by the new appointment of Richard Arnold to the role of CEO.

If United fail to land the former Spurs manager they could move back in for Rodgers, having made contact with the Leicester boss prior to landing Rangnick.

But ten Hag also remains an option after the Ajax manager revealed he would like the challenge of managing a top foreign club.
