RALF RANGNICK'S Manchester United appointment may just give the Red Devils the edge over the rest of Europe when it comes to signing Erling Haaland.

Borussia Dortmund sensation Haaland has been linked with a host of clubs, but United will now feel confident they can win the race.

That's because Rangnick is the man responsible for signing Haaland while he was director of football at RB Salzburg.

And his relationship with the 22-year-old could be a deciding factor in luring the striker to Old Trafford.

Spanish outlet are claiming Manchester United's appointment of Rangnick is 'decisive' in the battle to sign Haaland.

Rangnick signed Haaland from Norwegian club Molde in 2019 for just £7million.

He scored 29 goals in 27 games for the Austrians before moving on to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020.

And he hasn't taken his foot off the pedal since arriving in Germany - scoring a barely believable 70 goals in 69 games for the Bundesliga outfit.

It's led to the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool - as well as United - all being linked with Haaland.

But United's stance in the race has changed thanks to Rangnick.

Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen admitted in midweek the striker's controversial agent Mino Raiola may make it difficult for the Red Devils to sign Haaland.

But now Rangnick is set to sign a deal as six-month interim boss, before staying on for another two years in a consultancy role.

So the Red Devils have seemingly shot into pole position when it comes to triggering Haaland's £64million release clause.

Rangnick is something of a magician when it comes to discovering talent.

In fact an XI of players Rangnick has signed in his career would probably win the Champions League at a canter.

The 63-year-old discovered the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Timo Werner, Naby Keita AND Ibrahima Konate.

But Haaland remains his best find, and Rangnick may just be the key in bringing the Norwegian to the red side of Manchester.
