BORUSSIA DORTMUND kicked-off their new Bundesliga season with an easy 2-1 victory at home against Mainz.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring in the 17th minute and doubled late from the penalty spot, while Yoshinori Muto headed home in added time to reduce Mainz's deficit.
Dortmund made an immediate impact to their new season when ex-Chelsea player Andre Schurrle placed a well-executed cross in the area and Aubameyang followed with header at the far post.
New recruit Ousmane Dembele made his Bundesliage debut and looked already well established in German football.
The 19-year-old Frenchman joined Dortmund in a £37million transfer from French Ligue 1 club Rennes this summer after more than impressive campaign last term.
Against Mainz, Dembele created most of Dortmund's attacking threats, playing from both wings, taking corners and most free-kicks.
Schurrle could have doubled the scoring just before the hour mark when he, from the left flank, cut inside the box and curled a strike straight for goalkeeper Jonas Lössl to save it.
Sebastian Rode also had his chance in the second half to score when he fired from the fringe of the box.
What followed was a change of tactic from the hosts with Dembele and Schurrle swapping sides. The Frenchman then collected a lot more passes to keep Dortmund alive int he last quarter of hour.
Schurrle was brought down in the box in the 88th minute and Aubameyang made it 2-0 from the spot by guiding Lössl the wrong side.
