Rio’s ‘double double’ gold champ Mo Farah says getting knighthood ‘would be amazing’
MO Farah jumped for joy after doing the “double double” in Rio yesterday — then said a knighthood “would be amazing”.
He looks certain to get the honour after winning the 5,000m and 10,000m in Brazil, having done the same at London 2012.
Mo posted a picture on Instagram yesterday of him with wife Tania and his medals.
And he said it would be an honour to be in the same category as Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Steve Redgrave.
Mo, 33, said: “Being Sir Mo would be amazing. I didn’t even dream of becoming Olympic champion, let alone four times.”
Insiders said Mo, of Teddington, South West London — already a CBE — is certain to be knighted in December’s New Year’s Honours List. And bookies were so sure that they began paying out bets on it yesterday.
Cyclists Laura Trott, 24, and Jason Kenny, 28, and boxer Nicola Adams, 33, are also tipped for honours after winning golds.
Somalia-born Mo, who moved to the UK when he was eight, gave 2012’s golds to twins Aisha and Amani, born soon after those games.
He gave last week’s 10,000m gold to stepdaughter Rhianna, 11.
Yesterday’s 5,000m gold is for son Hussein, ten months.
