Tottenham think Harry Kane will STAY, says Redknapp as he recalls how Levy blocked Modric’s Chelsea transfer

TOTTENHAM believe Harry Kane will STAY, ex-boss Harry Redknapp says.

Former Spurs boss Redknapp reckons chairman Daniel Levy will stand firm on his £160million valuation - which even Manchester City have baulked at paying.

Tottenham chief Nuno Espirito Santo is prepared to start his wantaway star striker at home to the champions in Sunday's Premier League opener.

And Redknapp thinks Levy will continue to stand firm - revealing the club supremo did the same when star midfielder Luka Modric hoped to join Chelsea a decade ago.

Ex-West Ham manager Redknapp told the : “I spoke to somebody at Tottenham who told me that they think Harry Kane will stay - which I was quite surprised about.

"They just think Daniel will not budge from the price he’s put on him and he’s not going to say ‘well, Harry’s been a good servant and he really wants to go so we’ll take this for him or whatever’.

"Unless he gets that money then he’s going to be there next season that’s what I was told”.

England skipper Kane, 28, still has three years left on his £200,000-a-week Spurs contract.

And Redknapp recalled a major transfer saga from his own time as Tottenham boss to show how stubborn Levy can be.

He said: “I remember Luka Modric coming to see me and he came into my office and he said, ‘gaffer look they [Chelsea] have offered to double my wages’.

"Look, he wasn’t on big money at Tottenham and Daniel had tied him on a contract three or four years earlier that meant he wasn’t even one of the top paid players [at the club].

"So I said, ‘look Luka, I’d love to keep you here but I do understand your situation’, but Daniel just wouldn’t budge.

"He said unless we get this amount of money, and it was a lot more than they [Chelsea] were offering, he wouldn’t sell him.

"He stayed at the time and the following year they sold him to Real Madrid so he had a great move anyway, but he [Levy] won’t budge."

Redknapp added: "It’s very hard when you’re a player and you have a chance to get a great move like that and it’s difficult for a manager but you’re not really that involved in it as it’s done by the chairman.

"You’ll just be trying to keep the players as happy as you can but it ain’t going to be easy is it.

"There’ll be fireworks for sure if he’s got a chance to go and he’s made up his mind that he wants to go.”.
