Ali Crawford’s screamer stunned the Gers crowd as the visitors went into the break ahead.

Martyn Waghorn blasted home Rangers' leveller on the hour mark after an outstanding through ball by sub Harry Forrester.

Joey Barton, who joined the Glasgow giants from Burnley this summer, made his debut for the home side, as did former Liverpool man Jordan Rossiter from the bench.

However there would be no late drama as Mark Warburton's side marked their return to the big time with a frustrating draw.

Hamilton boss Martin Canning was pleased with his men afterwards.

He said: "The boys worked hard and we set out to do everything we tried to do and frustrate and make it difficult - I thought we did that."
