Seven-months pregnant golfer Liz Young tees off in Women’s British Open

The 33-year-old finished the first round at one-over par at Woburn as she aims to make the cut tomorrow

SHE may be seven months pregnant, but Liz Young has made a creditable start to the Ricoh Women's Open at Woburn.

The 33-year-old is currently one-over at the golf championship, and although she is outside the projected cut, she has another round to force herself into the reckoning.

The 33-year-old has already defied the odds to qualify when five months gone after finishing a credible 18th in the Tipsport Masters in the Czech Republic.

Liz has played on since finding out the good news and says that her game has hardly been affected by her unborn baby girl.

She took up golf at the age of 12 but only turned professional eight years ago.

The Brockenhurst-based player made a solid start to this year's tournament as she sunk a birdie at the first, and this form continued up to the ninth when she hit a bogey on the 405-yard par four.

Her back 9 faltered somewhat, as she finished with another three bogeys, to end on 73 for the day.

Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand carded seven birdies in a 65 on the Marquess’ Course at Woburn on Thursday morning to set the target in the 40th Ricoh Women’s British Open.
