Olympic village slammed again as Belorussians post images of squalor just TEN days before Games
Rio 2016 suffers yet another blow the day after Australia chief brands conditions in the athletes' village as 'unlivable'
THE athletes' park at the Rio Olympics has been slammed yet again just TEN days before the Games begin.
Following the Australian delegation's refusal to move into the complex in western Rio yesterday, the Belorussian team has branded the camp as "unsanitary" and posted a series of photos showing the unfit conditions.
The Belarus Olympic Committee complained about having no hot water and a failing sewage system.
They said: "There remains much for the Rio organising committee to do so that the living conditions meet sanitary requirements."
Chiller said: "Problems include blocked toilets, leaking pipes, exposed wiring, darkened stairwells where no lighting has been installed and dirty floors in need of a massive clean."
And during a test involving taps and toilets being turned on in apartments on several floors "water came down walls, there was a strong smell of gas in some apartments and there was 'shorting' in the electrical wiring."
Brazilian organisers have since said that the problems will be resolved by the end of the week.
It is the latest bad news to embarrass organisers in the lead up to the event.
Battered by bad news over the Zika virus, heavy pollution in the Olympic sailing and rowing areas as well as waves of armed crime across Rio.
Mayor Eduardo Paes served up a bizarre offer in his hope of appeasing the Australians.
He said: "[We can put] a kangaroo in front of their building to make them feel at home."
An Olympic spokesman said: "We have 630 men working to fix the problems at the Olympic Village.
"They should complete the impeccable handover of the Village by the end of the week, probably by Thursday.
