Argentina ‘to approach’ Tottenham Hostpur boss Mauricio Pochettino to become their new manager
The position is vacant since Gerardo Martino left when they failed to win the Copa America earlier this summer
MAURICIO POCHETTINO is to be approached about the vacant Argentina coach's position, according to reports in the country.
The Tottenham Hotspur manager will be sounded out by Argentina FA chief Armando Perez, who is flying to Spain to speak to Atletico Madrid's and Sevilla's Jorge Sampaoli about the role - both of whom have expressed an interest in the role.
Ex-Argentina international defender Pochettino is contracted by Spurs until 2022 having only joined two years ago, winning plaudits for his attractive football.
It is also rumoured Perez will speak to star to try and coax t he Barcelona forward and former Argentina captain to reverse his recent decision to quit international football.
Messi made the decision last month after the national side lost to Chile on penalties in the Copa America final - the second successive final they have lost to their rivals.
