Man Utd P-P Liverpool LIVE: Rescheduled date CONFIRMED, fixture pile-up for Red Devils – latest updates

MANCHESTER UNITED'S match with Liverpool on Sunday was POSTPONED on safety grounds after fans broke into Old Trafford and invaded the pitch.

The fixture will now take place on Thursday, May 13 with United's game against Leicester moved forward to May 11.

United could face a points deduction or a whopping fine after the game was put back because the safety of the players could not be guaranteed.

Stay up to date with all the fall-out from Old Trafford in our live blog, below...

  • GOOD MORNING

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is 'unhappy' with Gary Neville's role in promoting anti-Glazer sentiment among Manchester United fans, according to reports.

The influential Sky Sports pundit has repeatedly slated the Glazers since their controversial decision to try and breakaway as part of the botched European Super League.

And those behind the scenes believe that Neville, 46, is playing a part in fuelling fan unrest which led to Sunday's mass protest and match postponement at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer, 48, and his staff were against the Super League but, according to the Mail, they believe that Neville is taking things too far.

And they want the passionate Man United legend to 'tone down his rhetoric', in order to prevent further fan protests.

Meanwhile, Arsenal fans descended on the Emirates before last night’s Europa League defeat by Villarreal to protest Stan Kroenke.

The American was key in the failed European Super League.

And after Utd fans protested on Sunday, Arsenal supporters took to the streets outside the Emirates with banners and flares.

Finally, Uefa chiefs are threatening two-year European bans for the four Super league rebels who have still not pulled out of the project.

England’s Big Six were the first to withdraw, with Champions League finalists Chelsea and Manchester City quickest out of the blocks once they realised the breakaway was dead in the water.

But Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan have still to formally break free of the Super League project.

And that has left Uefa on the verge of imposing serious sanctions unless the quartet fold in the next few weeks.

The Prem sides, along with Atletico Madrid and Inter, are expected to accept fines for their parts in the rebellion.

Uefa head Aleksander Ceferin is likely to push for softer punishments on the English teams after their rapid U-turns and acceptance of error.

  • ROMA 3 MAN UTD 2 (5-8 AGG)

Man United booked their place in the Europa League final despite losing in Rome.

Edinson Cavani scored twice in a thriller against the Italians, who gave the Red Devils a hard-fought game.

But United held out to ensure their first-leg thrashing helped them set up a final clash against Villarreal, who knocked out Arsenal.

  • BRU WHAT?

Bruno Fernandes denied he tried to address protesting fans before Manchester United’s game with Liverpool was called off.

Around 250 fans laid siege to the team hotel on Sunday and it was rumoured he was ready to go and address them.

Fernandes claimed: “I was in my room watching football because Udinese was playing against Juventus.

“I never tried to go outside. We just did what the security said to us, keep in our rooms, stay there and that was everything the players did.

"If someone tried to come out, I don't know. I didn't see anyone try to come out, honestly...”

  • COMMENT BY NEIL CUSTIS

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing a magnificent job of tip-toeing through the broken glass of Sunday’s protest.

On the one hand he does not want to affect the place he has in the hearts of Manchester United fans around the world.

But then how can anyone seriously expect him to hit out at his own employers, the very people who have given him the chance to manage the club he served so well as a player?

Solskjaer has been shamefully left to do a juggling act on his own, with not one of the owning Glazer family publicly addressing the disgruntled fans over their ownership model or the bid to break away into a European Super League.

  • WHEN IN ROME

Man United received a police escort to the airport as they flew out to Italy for their Europa League semi-final second leg against Roma on Wednesday.

The Red Devils were afforded the extra safety measures just days after fans stormed Old Trafford in protest against the Glazers causing Sunday's Premier League match against Liverpool to be postponed.

A police van was seen trailing the team bus as it headed for Manchester airport.

Gary Neville backed Man Utd fans' protests against the Glazers and has been the most vocal outspoken critic of the failed Super League.

Here he is putting some tough questions to former Prem chief exec Richard Scudamore.

  • REBEL HELL

Uefa chiefs are threatening two-year European bans for the four Super league rebels who have still not pulled out of the project.

England’s Big Six were the first to withdraw, with Champions League finalists Chelsea and Manchester City quickest out of the blocks once they realised the breakaway was dead in the water.

  • SUPER BACKLASH

Fan fury has been fuelled by the Super League debacle.

Here is what went down in that momentous 48 hours.

  • TIME TO FOCUS

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said his side must keep their eyes on the prize despite taking a four-goal advantage into tonight’s Europa League semi-final second leg away at Roma.

The Norwegian boss told the club’s website: “That’s our job to do so and that’s what we’re trying to do.

Of course, we spent days to prepare for the Liverpool game, we were ready for it and we’ll have to do that again at some point.

“But, unfortunately, the game didn’t go ahead. The players really wanted to play and we felt ready for it.

“Now all our focus is on this game and we’ve given ourselves a very good foundation with a good result from the first leg. But we go to this one wanting to win this one.”

  • FAN FRENZY

Away fans will NOT be able to attend the last two rounds of Prem games - after the Old Trafford pitch invasion forced a U-turn.

Prem clubs had been keen to ensure up to 500 visiting supporters were allowed into grounds in the last week of the season, as part of maximum 10,000 crowds.

But League chiefs were concerned that the Government, and local safety officers, might block the proposals in the wake of the violent incidents that saw Manchester United’s game with Liverpool postponed on Sunday.

And now the Prem has confirmed that, while fans are set to be allowed at the games between May 18 and May 23 - one in each of the 20 top flight stadiums - seats will be strictly sold to home fans only.

In a statement, the League cited “varying operational challenges across the League and the need to deliver a consistent approach”.

But SunSport revealed earlier this week that senior Prem figures were warning of the potential repercussions of the Old Trafford disorder.

There were genuine concerns that the Government, which has the final say on all post-Covid crowd attendances, would be minded to block the early return of away fans for fear of potential disorder.

  • TELE TROUBLE

Almost 150 people complained to Ofcom over Sky Sports' coverage of Manchester United fan protests at Old Trafford.

Angry supporters showed their discontent with the Glazer family with a number of demonstrations on Sunday.

One group blocked the players' route to the team bus at their Lowry Hotel base while hundreds turned up at Old Trafford before the Liverpool game.

Protestors then forced open an access door to the United pitch and rushed inside, leading to the game's postponement in scenes shown live on Sky.

But the channel's coverage of the episode upset some with 148 viewers contacting the broadcast regulator to complain.

Following the incident, Sky allowed pundits Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness to express their views on the protest.

The Ofcom complaints for Sky Sports' coverage was the second-highest of the week, behind the 190 viewers upset by Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow.

  • NO COMMENT FROM GLAZER

Avram Glazer refused to comment when approached by cameras by Sky Sports News.

The fall-out from the European Super League continues at Manchester United and there has still been no coherent apology to the fans from the seemingly anonymous Glazers on the attempted breakaway.

  • GOOD MORNING

Man United’s postponed clash with Liverpool will be played next Thursday.

And it means United having to play twice in barely 48 hours, three times in five days and four matches in nine days.

It had been thought that Liverpool’s trip to West Brom would be brought forward to allow the Old Trafford clash of the north-west giants to go back to its initial Sunday afternoon slot on May 16.

Instead, United’s game with Leicester has been shunted forward 24 hours to Tuesday May 11 with a 6pm kick-off, and the Liverpool match will start at 8.15pm on May 13.

United will feel frustrated at the inconvenience and the rescheduling is a boost for Liverpool and their top-four hunt.

Although Prem chiefs will argue that the Old Trafford club alone were responsible for the late call-off last Sunday.

Meanwhile, Man Utd received a police escort to the airport as they flew out to Italy for their Europa League semi-final second leg against Roma.

The Red Devils were afforded the extra safety measures just days after fans stormed Old Trafford causing Sunday’s Premier League match against Liverpool to be postponed.

United face Roma in the Italian capital today with a hefty four-goal advantage following the 6-2 thrashing at Old Trafford last week.

Finally, SunSport can reveal the Glazers are ready to sanction a £90million Manchester United bid for Harry Kane as they desperately attempt to quash fan fury.

Sunday’s protests hit home in Florida, where the controversial owners are based — and they are keen to dampen the anger.

Though there is little interest in selling up, the need to win back favour is obvious.

One option being considered is an attempt to sign the world-class striker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants.

Spurs ace Kane is top of their list and SunSport understands he would be interested in an Old Trafford move.

Man United and Liverpool will play their rearranged fixture next Thursday.

Sunday's original clash was scrapped as furious Red Devils fans stormed Old Trafford to protest the Glazer ownership.

  • MAKING A POINT

TalkSport host Jim White insists Man United MUST be hit with a points deduction after Sunday’s fan protests.

He said: "I think a points deduction has got to be considered.

"When you condemn United supporters for however they did it, getting thorough the gates, getting on to the pitch, everybody was appalled and open-mouthed looking at these pictures.

"As Graeme Souness said, a flare was thrown at a camera platform, if someone had been caught by that there was going to be a big-time problem.

"Some individual got hold of a tripod, not that this was the biggest crime that was ever committed, and chucked it."

Europe’s leading clubs lost £50m in Champions League prize money as a result of LAST season’s Covid crisis.

But they still bagged lots more than their Europa League competitors.

£9.74m was stripped from the FOUR English clubs in the Champions League.

Despite handing back £2.85m, Manchester City still made £81.73m from their run to the last eight, a sum only exceeded by PSG, who topped the list with £109.4m, winners Bayern Munich (£108.24) and Barcelona (£86.48m).

Liverpool grossed £73.33m, including their Super Cup victory bonus, Chelsea £71.6m and Spurs £55.66m.

By contrast, Manchester United earned just £26.36m from their Europa League run, with Wolves taking £19.62m and Arsenal, eliminated in the last 16, £16.08m.
