Kamaru Usman calls out UFC legend Georges St-Pierre for fight but Dana White hints at setting up Jorge Masvidal rematch

KAMARU USMAN called out UFC legend Georges St-Pierre - but Dana White hinted at a Jorge Masvidal rematch instead.

Usman made the third successful defence of his welterweight title at UFC 258, knocking out ex-training partner Gilbert Burns in three rounds.

The win saw the Nigerian-American extend his winning streak to 13 in the division, surpassing 39-year-old icon GSP.

St-Pierre, a two-weight champion, is considered by many of one of the greatest of all time, and the best welterweight ever.

But Usman wants to settle the debate as he opened the door to a crossroads fight with St-Pierre.

He said: “Of course, I would like Georges, but I don’t want Georges because of money or anything like that.

"Like I said, I’m a competitor. I want Georges because Georges left on top. Georges can still do it. I see him training.

“Georges can still do it. So if there’s a potential for that big fight, if Georges wants to come back, then of course. Georges can cut the line. Absolutely.”

St-Pierre first retired in 2013 after narrowly retaining his title against Johny Hendericks, in his ninth straight defence.

He then came back in 2017 and beat Michael Bisping for the middleweight crown, but failed to fight again, officially walking away in 2019.

GSP has been linked with a dream-fight against unbeaten lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov, 32, something Dana White has also shut down.

Usman also called to rematch Masvidal, who he beat on points last July on Fight Island.

Masvidal, 36, took the fight on a week's notice after Brazilian Burns, 34, pulled out with coronavirus.

Usman wants to run it back and this time vowed knock out Masivdal, with UFC president White seemingly on board.

He said: “There’s a lot of options for him right now

“If that’s the fight he wants, and that’s the fight Masvidal wants, and I’m sure the people would like to see it, too."

Masivdal did look set to fight best friend-turned enemy Colby Covington, with the two rumoured to also coach The Ultimate Fighter.

But after Brit Leon Edwards, 29, was again left without an opponent due to Khamzat Chimaev, 26, withdrawing, the UFC have turned to Covington, 32, as a replacement.

Talks are still ongoing but it would free up Masvidal to receive an immediate rematch with champion Usman.
