RB Leipzig confirm Tottenham transfer interest in Marcel Sabitzer as Jose Mourinho eyes January reinforcements
RB LEIPZIG have confirmed Tottenham's interest in signing Marcel Sabitzer.
The 26-year-old midfielder is reportedly one of Jose Mourinho's top targets for the upcoming transfer window.
He netted twice in the second leg of last season's Champions League last-16 clash between the two sides.
Sabitzer has 18 months left to run on his Leipzig contract and talks over an extension have yet to begin.
Tottenham's hopes have reportedly been boosted because his £105,000-a-week wages are unlikely to be increased.
As a result, Leipzig could opt to cash in on Sabitzer instead of running the risk of losing him for nothing at the end of next season.
Speaking about Spurs' interest, Krosche added: "As I said, he has made a great development. It goes without saying that other clubs also notice this."
Sabitzer, who joined Leipzig in 2014 when they were in the second tier of German football, would bring leadership and reliability to Mourinho's midfield.
The 26-year-old was named Leipzig skipper after a vote among the players earlier this year. He wore the armband for large parts of last season due to Willi Orban's injury problems.
He has not let the additional responsibilities diminish his game, however, providing six goal contributions in 16 appearances this term.
Krosche added: "I don’t like singling out anyone individually but Marcel Sabitzer has really developed well.
"I also deal with him outside of the field. He accepts the role of captain extremely well and has matured even further as an individual."
