Wimbledon 2016: Sam Querrey outlasts Lukas Rosol in early contender for match of the tournament at SW19

NICOLAS MAHUT v John Isner in 2010 it was not, but Sam Querrey emerged victorious from an early contender for match of the tournament on day one at Wimbledon.

Taking on Czech star Lukas Rosol, the American veteran - seeded 28 for the tournament - dropped the first two sets 7-6 7-6.

However, the 29-year-old recovered to storm through the next two 6-4 6-2 to take the match to a decider.

And the thrilling finale showed no signs of being a blowout as the match rolled on to 10-10 in the fifth.

Yet Querrey finally made that all-important breakthrough, forcing Rosol into conceding his serve, before holding his own to run out 12-10 winner in the decider.

While Isner's 6-4 3-6 6-7 7-6 70-68 epic win from six years ago may never be topped, this one certainly will go down as one for the ages.
