Former WWE and UFC star CM Punk reveals he is still training but ‘Covid making it very hard’ amid cage comeback rumours

CM PUNK revealed he is still training in MMA - but admits the coronavirus pandemic is 'making it very hard'.

The former WWE star left Vince McMahon's pro wrestling stable in 2014 to sign with the UFC.

And after two failed fights he has not fought since - but appears to still be learning his craft.

During a Twitter Q&A, a fan asked if the 41-year-old has taken a break from fighting or whether he is still training.

Punk - real name Phil Brooks - responded: "I still train but Covid making it very hard."

The MMA novice trained for two years before losing his UFC debut in 2016 against Mickey Gall, 28, in two minutes.

He took the same amount of time to prepare for his second bout, where he was again beaten, this time on points by Mike Jackson, 35.

Both fights were on pay-per-view undercards, and the interest in watching Punk in the octagon was credited for boosting box office sales.

But after his loss to the hands of Jackson, UFC president Dana White admitted Punk's time with the promotion was likely over.

White said after UFC 225 in June 2018: "We gave him two shots, and he had a lot of heart tonight in this fight. And I think he should call it a wrap."

But it emerged Punk has still been handing in drug tests to United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

TSN reporter Aaron Bronsteter tweeted: "Since January and CM Punk has submitted more samples than four UFC champions, three of whom have competed in 2020."

UFC competitors are required to be tested both in and out of competition with USADA unless they are retired.

It opens the door for Punk to make a cage comeback, having signalled that he has not yet officially hung up the gloves.
