WWE icon Rey Mysterio’s son Dominik on how match with Seth Rollins was put together leading to hug from Vince McMahon
DOMINIK MYSTERIO has revealed he thought it was a joke when he heard he would make an explosive WWE debut against Seth Rollins.
The son of the legendary Rey Mysterio had his first-ever match last Sunday at SummerSlam aged just 23.
Despite losing to the Monday Night Messiah, the youngster impressed everyone with his abilities inside the ring.
The next day on Raw he got to experience another special moment when he teamed up with his dad to battle Rollins and Murphy in a tag-team bout.
We reported on Friday how his performance during the clash at SummerSlam earned him a hug from Vince McMahon.
Now Dominik has revealed how he discovered he was set to star at the Biggest Party of the Summer.
And he had special praise for his opponent after the former world champ helped him put together the match.
He told : “I didn’t know what was going on, I just go based on what my dad tells me.
“So we were travelling and we had just finished up a Raw and he goes ‘they want you and Seth for SummerSlam’.
“And I was like ‘OK, yeah. Sure. They want me and Seth at SummerSlam. OK’ [laughs].
“He said ‘No, I’m serious.’ And I was like ‘OK, Dad. Cool.’ I didn’t even think anything of it. I just thought it was a joke.
“Then the next day he was like ‘So, you ready? and I was like ‘For what? What are you talking about?’
“And he said ‘You’re gonna wrestle Seth at SummerSlam.’ Then I thought OK, this is pretty serious now.
“So I already had a routine where I wake up, do my cardio and go to my training, but once I figured that out I stepped it up one more notch.
“So I normally go to the in-ring three or four days a week, I upped that to four or five days a week. I had to make sure I was extra prepared and putting in extra work.
“But yeah, I thought he was joking the whole time! I thought he was ribbing me.”
It was no joke and the youngster did in fact soon find himself on the big stage against Rollins.
And Dominik had some special words for the man who beat him.
“He’s 1000 percent one of the best workers in the world. He said it himself, he’s a ‘master at his craft’ and he is.
“I didn’t know that he got a list of names and he picked me, so that’s really cool, the fact he was able to trust in me and my work and what I could do.
“Especially my dad, too. Because if my dad told him I’m good to go and I’m ready, he took my dad’s word for it as well so, again, I’m very grateful for everything Seth has done for me.”
